There's a book about that 16-18 theory, but I can't remember the name right now.

Never heard of it, but I'm sure that it's by Chuck Klosterman.

I once heard someone say that for most people, their absolute favorite music of all time is the stuff they were exposed to when they were 16-18, and that's the way it stays for the rest of their lives.  There might be a little bit of that in the Teengenerate, etc.-worship going on here.  Nothing wrong with that, sometimes it's hard to feel about music the way you did when you were at a more impressionable age, you know?
That said, there are still sometimes bands that I hear that make me feel 18 again ... Cheveu, Pink Reason, Tyvek et al do it for me.  Lots of others.  Times are good for music freaks.

Also check out Ryan Jewell from Columbus.  www.myspace.com/ryanxing  He does all kinds of different things but a lot of it lives under a broad, free-jazz umbrella

putting in another plug for Ryan, my buddy and roommate ... he is always, always worth watching live, too, if ya can, whether he's playing with Pink Reason, solo, with his sax-playing friend Hassan (these two especially are awesome together), guitarist Larry Marotta, etc. etc.  He's got an amazing musical mind and is one of the best drummers I've ever seen ... helluva nice guy and fun as fuck, too.

it was some movie called urgh! a music war

that movie is totally worth the awesome parts ... unfortunately it's bookended by two horrible, horrible Police performances, but the highlights include the Au Pairs, fucking amazing Gang of Four performance, one of the best John Otway performances ever, and Pere Ubu at their weirdest/tightest.

I got to hear the tracks for the 7" last night, and they kill.  Way rougher sound than their cd.

do you think they're starting to sound more like Psych Horseshit w/Rich on drums?  He's infecting every band in town with that sound!

No Buzzcocks???
"Ever Fallen in Love" although cliched by now never ever fails to move me.  It's the change from minor to major at the end of the chorus.

That is a seriously disturbing picture ... I don't know if it's the dashiki, the bunny mask, or the nutsack tweaking ... probably a combination.  I'm going to have nightmares.

i guess if you think the hardcore punk scene is the heartattack magazine scene of like 10 years ago you win. everyone knows most of those "little vegan waifs" are weird punk now. it's the new screamo violence.

really?  is that what happened to all those little skinny boys?  I stopped listening to that crap and started smoking weed and eating meat.  I'm much happier now.  I just assumed there was some modern-day equivalent of that scene now ...
