as a public service announcement....I'd recommend seeing this band if they're coming to your 'burgh.  and help 'em out on 4/13.  I know it's a Sunday but they're one of the best bands in Columbus right now, for what that's worth.  like an artsy Cramps or a female-fronted Cheater Slicks.

man, the morning after thursday's show me and the wife had to kick their asses out so we could go spend the weekend on the chesapeake bay. i asked her to grab a "mellow" disc for the drive and she pulled out L.A. Carnival. those are pretty personal, for me, but you could attempt build a band using any of those as a model--in terms of consistent creative output, strength of vision, inimitable style--and make a damn good one.  IF you succeeded, which you probably wouldn't, because all of those bands are all sui generis.
