« on: May 07, 2008, 07:57:51 AM »i'm definitely excited about the sled island lineup. i mean, calgary is a boring, sedan-rock saturated city where woodpigeon is considered fun music, so of course sled island is going to cater to that market, but at the same time, when else are wire, mark sultan, fucked up, david yow, and yo la tengo (who maybe fall into the category that i'm knocking, but i really like them so whatever) gonna be in town on a single weekend? and it's not a corporate circus, which is also quite a feat in calgary.
I'm also excited about SLED ISLAND.
There are atleast 2 bands a day I'm really looking forward to.
and I'm extra excited for the SLUT ISLAND after party I'm gonna put together with the HAZARD LIGHTS the SUICIDE WRISTS and the NEW KRIME!!!

mostly reviews of records I buy that I like, with some trades, and pictures
it's called GOING GAGA
I don't imagine anybody would mail me promo records though...why would they...I'm already a customer.ha!
plus, 20 copies take a month to disappear at the record store...and they're FREE
but this promo list is a gem
I started up a little label under the same name to put out my own records with various projects, I'll be mailing out records to these places.
mostly reviews of records I buy that I like, with some trades, and pictures

I don't know too much about music, and the value or availability of records. I paid what I thought was a lot for a few of them, but it was less than the guy who had them at Sam's in Halifax was asking. They were records I really wanted to hear, and figured that was the only way I'd get to hear them.
I guess what I'm trying to get at is...
he has a good handle on prices, they're not blowout cheap, but not stupid expensive either, rather fair.
It's worth asking about, and I know it's worth picking several, and asking how much for the lot.

I just moved to Ottawa this week, and what do I find? Halifax' Sam the Record Man closed down a couple of months ago. John from Birdman Sound in Ottawa is selling off the 7 inch collection. You can find a partial list here
