GGR010 - the VISITORS - AVENGING THE VISIGOTHS - LP

The VISITORS come from a faraway place.  They keep an apartment in Ottawa to stay in touch with the scene.  This is the scene that built their empire, an empire which they rule over, and visit often.  Ottawa knows a good band when it hears one, and the VISITORS are definitely a local favourite.  This 3 piece male ?n female combo have the songs and the raw energy that can turn a stranger into a fan.  What you have here is the latest 6 cuts of the VISITORS best!  Trading off vocals between all three members, the righteous 3 piece format delivers unrelenting downstrokes, fast 4?s, and great melodies.  They say they wanna sit between the Riverdales, the Ramones, and Iron Maiden.  I always think of the Tyrades meets the Marked Men.  Erin has a voice that?s rough in all the right ways?no wimpy girl voice!.  Skottie from the CREEPS is on guitar duty here!  And Berger?s been playing pop punk drums (well!) for like 15 years!  Highly recommended for fans of any of those name drops.  This limited edition pressing of 300 copies is housed in a full colour jacket, with a 2 sided full colour insert.  A MUST have for any punk rock record fan!

GGR011 - ZEBRASSIERES - GOOEY ZOO - LP

ZEBRASSIERES is fashionably good, fashionably stylish, and fashionably unforgettable.  This relatively unheard of Ottawa band popped out of a few different networks sometime in 2008.  They created a style and a sound of their own.  A 4 piece setup, guitar, bass, farfisa organ, and drums, shared vocals, huge hooks, awesome singing, and great melodies.  The songwriting is somewhere between pop, oddity, and straight ahead punk.  This album marks their first 8 songs ever to see the light of day.  Recognizable similarities tie them to bands like the Okmoniks, the Dickies, Devo, and the Spits.  This super special record is limited to 330 copies.  All copies are housed in a full colour jacket, and all copies are pressed on 1 sided wax!!!  This is a must have.  People will be talking about this in the future once they?re more known, I know, and that?s why I put it out.  Grab yourself a copy, before you?re stuck with the option of a 4th or 5th pressing!

absolutely incredible weekend!!!
from the minute we showed up at the 529 on Friday, to the minute I closed my eyes on Sunday morning...that was some of the best rock and roll I've ever witnessed.
the bands ruled!  My highlights were pretty much all of them save for about 5 that I didn't watch, I was busy lying to people about being a true Canadian lumberjack.

if you wanna know, this is my experience there..........
Gaye Blades were great...also, perhaps ironically had the most violent reactions...quite a bit of bleeding going on!  Barreracudas played great as always, I could listen to NY HONEYS every day! GG King was a big anticipation for me, and they were killer!  Bad Sports knocked me the fuck out! seriously, what on earth???  Cococoma sounded excellent, loud, and awesome!  ROE'S RULE!!!  also the blankJ's AJ/TJ are the best dudes!!!  the Urinals played a rad Angry Angles cover, ha!  was good.  then Davilla got me wasted and all riled up!!!  Games couldn't find the green light on the tuner, yet managed to pull off a 2nd show that had me hooked no matter what.  Heard their songs for a 2nd time, and they are seriously permanently stuck in my head.  Great great band!  Georgina Starligton put on a good show too, a nice shift in the sound!  all before Frantic absolutely fuckin killed it!  wild in the room again!  Then GJesse got up and delivered a lethal dose of Atlanta hooks!  tons of good new songs...really great to my ears!  Then I went over to the Earl, and hung out in an empty room with perfect and HUGE sound as Reigning Sound did their sound check!  I got 3 songs!!!  it was a treat.  Then Predator did their sound check, and played my jam!  Then about 45 minutes later they played it again, and I was just as pumped as the first time!!!  Their set was really really solid!  I had really low expectations for Woven Bones, which is probably why I was intrigued by them...good band!  White Wires set was really good.  We were also really fuckin funny.  Good jokes about being pedos, terrorists, and drug dealers and in a band crossing the border, also lots of good Canadian humour content.  King Louie was good, although I had to miss most of it.  Paul Collins sounded fuckin rad too!  Was really uncomfortable to go up and sing with him, all I did was ask if he was playing anything off of KIDS ARE THE SAME, and then he told me that I would come sing the title song with him.  Even though I was really not into singing while fuckin Paul Collins was on stage, I reluctantly got up and did the backups for the choruses!  Also, I don't know all the words, or any of them other than the chorus, ha!  had it been "that's what life is all about" things would have been different.  Good times.  Reigning Sound played really nice, obviously!  Afterparty was great, obviously!
15 hour trip back to the woods was actually pretty good!
body rocked today though. in bed at 12:30 last night, at work at 7:15 this morning...sick as fuck tonight.
MESS AROUND 2010, I will never forget you.

a little late, but still reminiscing!

HIGHS:  a lot of great great sets!  quite a bite of shite too, but didn't pay much attention.  Chronologically, these were my faves...Jeff & the Brotherhood at the Longbranch, Thursday day at Beerland Mickey & Shannon & the Clams, over at the Grande Serious Tracers were good, that night at Trailer space Happy Birthday, Ty Segall, Barreracudas, and Barreracudas with Personal!!  Whipping the chain!   the Spits at Jaimies!!!  the bridge show that night Home Blitz and Oh Sees, Friday day Trouble in Mind showcase was really good, Cococoma knocked me out, then every band after them was really good, started withTyler Jon Tyler, the Hollows, Ty, Fresh & Onlys, Charlie & the Moonhearts, Shite Wires, Hex Dispensers...totally unreal, perfect afternoon!!!!!!  go TIMR!!!!!!!  that night, Beerland knocked me out, I was kinda there, but too wasted to remember.  I know I saw Davilla, Kid Congo, Cheap Time, the Spits, Wounded Lion...was fun.  My hotel party had good promise, I gathered everybody I met on the way home, got back to the hotel at about 3, everybody in the room was asleep, hardly any beer, and the security guy was a dick.  Whatever.  Saturday Goner show was great!  I loved Sector Zero.  That was so entertaining!  Ran around trying to catch So Cow.  Caught the Blind SHake!  Back to Beerland, caught Cococoma killin it!  Trailer Space, finally found So Cow!  Great set!  1808, watched some band I don't know who...but were pretty rad, then Barreracudas ripped it up righteously!  Back to Trailer Space, Happy Birthday, and Brimstone Howl...LOVED it!  Then to the ultimate fuckin classic house party!  That night show fugged me up bad!  BAD SPORTS!!!!  so fuckin good!!  Shannon and the Clams were great....Shite Wires were the shite-iest...I got WAY too fugged, playing Daniel's free flying V, fell over, knocked Allie's drum kit over.  Played a 3 song set...1 of those songs got played 3 times.  Then watched Audacity rule!  Then caught a ride out with some friends, and that was the end of my story.

other highs included: first time in Texas, vagabond trunk riding in the taxi, great food, lots of great people, the Canadian contingent, getting a tablespoon of hot salsa in my eye, a new 45 for the WW's, rockers in the airport, leather pants.

LOWS:  missing Terrible Twos, River City Tanlines, Predator, Earthmen, Digital Leather.  Wednesday night show getting canned...also disappointed I missed the Bare Wires, and Harlan T Bobo.
Disappointments aside, the only shitty thing for me was getting gang banged by the fucking quadrouple connecting quadrouple airline shit show, and stranded in the DC airport for 18 hours on the way home.

I will gladly sell you both one..........as soon as I can procure them from the local garbage dump
we sold a bunch in town.......and soon enough, they will be at the back of the bins.

I found 2 at Goner last year, which I had sold to the store at wholesale obviously...I was too embarrassed to be buying them back, and I didn't want to make Eric n Zac feel like they should give me a deal...so I gave Barb 10 bucks to buy them back for me! ahaha.
then gave them to people in Europe who helped the band out!
university business students take notes!

all to say, they're in stores somwhere.
the first press on Going Gaga sold out pretty quick
and then Ptrash repressed another 300 copies...which also sold pretty quick.
but I know they're out there...and the next 2 I find will be yours.
