I can't find the original emails - they were on a bunch of boards about a year ago. Here's Kent's response.
Kent McClard of Ebullition anti-cat stance reaction posting - totally fun!!!
Anti-Cat stance coming... HeartattaCk ..48
As many of you have seen I posted an anti-cat viewpoint here on my news page. A LOT of cat lovers have e-mailed me to complain, and in almost every case I sent them a reply.
I got into a very long discussion with one guy who happens to be in a band from NYC. Without asking me or informing me he then went and posted my e-mail messages to him on some message boards. I didn't write these e-mails to him with the intent that he would publish them. They were personal e-mails between he and I.
By posting them without asking/telling me he took away my right/ability to defend my views and to elaborate or explain my position to anyone that read or posted on these message boards.
Now I will be forced to go into more detail on this subject. So I will be writing about it in the next issue of HeartattaCk.
If you read these e-mails that were posted on the internet please understand they were never meant for you. I wrote them for one person and one person alone.
I am extremely pissed off that he published them.
This was a cowardly response on his part. Rather than arguing with me directly, which I was perfectly fine doing, he decided to remove my ability to defend myself so that he could make fun of me behind my back.
I suppose it was a lot easier for him to win the argument once I no longer had any voice.
Bravo, brave man.
This is not to say that I didn't write these e-mails, but part of our communication was what I would call thinking out loud. I was using our discussion to learn and to develop my own views. They were always written in haste and with passion, and I would have written in a very different tone if I had known they were going to be public record.
I always try to respond when people write to me personally, but maybe I shouldn't do that anymore.
In any event, more to come...
- Kent
