jared: well, what is it that doesn't move you?

i can think of one hand's worth of fingers of folks that can take such ancient music (dixieland country?) and honestly stone the hell out of it, bend it, twist it, melt it and warp it with out either being self consciously "weird" or npr/revial bull shit.  one of the many things about them that cuts'em above most of the new 'weird' folks (such as jofo foster, she's a pretty lady but i don't listen to her records, never) is their actual song writing ability.  i mean shit, beneath the 'kazoo exotica' these folks can write a damn song.  they're way more than a damn hook, that is for sure.

before i heard them the black velvet fuckere guy (who has the same last name as one of the characters in "sweet movie", what is up w/ that?) - in an email described them to me as sorta placed in a similar vein as the better bassholes and michael hurley records or a less rocknroll cramps/panther burns.  makes sense to me.

"IF..." !

perfect.

"Off the Charts"

song-poem doc.  they even interview the guy that wrote "blind man's penis"

"Another Sky"

shot in Morocco in the early 50's.  the story is fine but the really deal is music and scenery of the area and time.

"Saturday the 14th"

duh.

np: jackwacker

Now that's a shitty record.

Looks like some brittle ears!  Perhaps this board is too Garage Rock for something like Jackwacker's "elastic mindfuckere".  Fair enough, but their shit really is more fun than a reusable firecracker!  This isn't saying much but they blow 99% of the Bull Tongue noise hype out of the water.  They are a great example of people that could obviously play by the rules before they decided to smash them apart.  I hear soul filled MX80 or hell even Magma damage more so than any kind of bull shit Math or Prog with in their shredding.. and then there are those noise blisters!!!  This is seriously one of the few "Post-Nowave" records worth repeated spins.  Add this to the fact that it sat around for nearly 15 years before it was released and this is easily one of last years' most over-looked lps.
