I saw the boy Brood in Amsterdam one day, sitting on an outside cafe terrace in the street. It was a really hot summer day, and the boy Brood was head-to-toe'd in leather, looking pretty daft. Anyway, given that Herman's own mean streets are cobbled, canal'd and be-bicycled, I would wonder quite how much any City element in his work was, at best, second-hand. I vote no.

What about Fake City? I'd give him yes for that.

Is that liquid stone 45 the same copy Steve just sold?

Certainly possible, but I don't know. It came in on consignment.

No, it's not.

US Dept of Homeland Security have introduced a heavy-handed routine for handling incoming international packages - sometimes stuff's getting shifted into a slower airmail system, sometimes it's even being dumped onto ships instead of planes, and then stuff's often quarantined on arrival too. Some sellers on MusicStack and eBay have introduced a 'will not ship to the USA' policy.

I received, and taped over, demos from Manic Street Preachers and from Catatonia. Instead, I put out the Saucerman 12". I have flawless A&R skills and will be touring my 'Spot The Stars' A&R workshop through 2011. Book early.

Just been reading that Lookout thread and it made me wonder: is there a way to see how many downloads a particular title has received? Or is that info only available to the label/'rights holder'?

Cheers,
Steve

I've spent the last l-o-n-g time transferring stuff on quarter-inch 8-track tapes from my old Fostex M-80 onto the computer. Never mind the sticky-shed syndrome on some tapes, the real problem is that the M-80 never plays the same speed twice, so when transferring two tracks at a time into my stereo soundcard I end up with four pairs of out-of-sync audio.(I know I could've bought a multi-in soundcard, but where's the fun in that?)

Anyway, nice machine - I'd recommend it. And of course they're cheap these days.

Nice to see The Wombles getting a mention on TermBo.

I have a T with this design. Bought it so long ago (and it still fits) that it was closer to the release of the LP than to today. That's almost OG, right?

Them Expedits are great, fair play, but when are those slackers at Ikea going to come up with something for singles? Yes, you could probably find something which'd allow a setup like the mystery 'found' photo above (with the sideways-on singles, shelved like LPs), but that makes it look like a library: I want my singles in boxes, on nice shelving 40cm deep. Anyone from Ikea lurking on the board please take note.

Acetates were/are prohibitively expensive to use as promos for non-majors. On the other hand, that's not to say that they never were, though. On the OTHER hand, I've heard of modern lathe-cut singles being 'mistaken' for acetates... be careful out there...

Does anyone know what the eff this thing is?

I'm pretty sure it's the same dude that took lawndart for a ride on that black Horror Biz, so I'm guessing it's not a real record.

i would say this went as expected and I see no reason to doubt it's authenticity at this point.

you must be this tall to ride

are you being serious? i bought the story when i first read it, but re-reading closely, it's way too good to be true. it's an Acetate! Acetate bullshit is this dude's MO. have you ever heard of any band sending out an acetate as a promo? with a one-piece sleeve with absolutely nothing written on it? i don't buy it.

totally serious

"Angie Baby" was always a favourite here. I 'sourced' it several times for my own stuff.
