Non-Music Shit / Re: Movies I've been watching
« on: September 21, 2020, 05:35:26 AM »
Beyond The Black Rainbow - I liked what I was watching until I snoozed, will return at a later date. Felt like it was of the era it was trying to emulate.

Double World - Enjoyable fantasy action flick from China, didn't look cheap and the major action set pieces were ones I hadn't seen before. I'll probably watch it one more time, I had it on in the background while working on various tasks around my place.

I was feeling nostalgic and this popped into my head, still fun to listen to. I wondered though if google had an answer as to why it existed in the first place, which in turn led me to this oral history of how it came to be.

I decide to then start listening to some Boo-Ya T.R.I.B.E

Nobody in high school was into them, so this is new territory for me, very solid. Rated R is my jam right now. Also the Faith No More story about recording (in the article above) with them was great

I'm really into this new Shark Toys e.p. their previous outings never really grabbed me but Out of Time and the rest of the songs on this seem to be the band coming into their own? Keats Rides A Harley distilled?? Shark Toys??

Music Shit / Re: State Laughter Mixcloud...post your mixes here!
« on: July 21, 2020, 06:00:23 AM »
Have had a bunch of friends ask me to do mixes for them recently. It had been awhile, but it was a lot of fun. All vinyl, only one turntable, so heavily utilization of the pause button. Digitized it and uploaded it to mixcloud this morning. Gonna try to do one every week.

Jumping off point was the intersection of early 80's DIY/post punk and the cosmic end of folk from the prior decade. I kinda jump off topic somewhat and go with the vibe of the mix, but definitely more of a focus on druggy haze...slower tempo wise and often without drums. It jumps into the 90s and even the 2000's towards the end of the tape, but i think the continuity is their.

Share if you have mixes of your own.

Captured to tape first and then digitized? What were you using to digitize the mix?

Unfortunately, this was delisted from Spotify...

Listening to it on the Smart Guy Bandcamp.

The 1 - 2 punch of Eastern Vibrations and Death Is Leaving Me, love it, love it, love it!
Yes! His Rank/Xerox stuff is great. Haven't heard Lace Curtains or Whalehammer? Check it out?
Great band, David West is pretty great in all his incarnations.

Music Shit / Re: What is your relationship to music in 2020?
« on: June 26, 2020, 10:42:14 AM »
Its been an evolution of how I consume the medium that's for sure! Early 2010's my actual need to own physical media dropped off a cliff, made way more CD-R's during the start of the decade, purchased an iPod and was obsessed with constantly changing out the library on that, that progressed to getting my first cellphone which acted in the same manner as my iPod for a while. I'm now at a point where the Spotify library satiates most of my musical consumption needs. If I do need to dig deeper Bandcamp or Youtube works at the moment. I just moved recently and lugging 1300 plus records out of my exes place was the pits!

My taste has pretty much remained the same, though I fall in line with you that my punk/garage listening habits are not at the forefront as they used to be too. I was pretty depressed last year so my habit of listening to nihilistic/depressive music increased tenfold. Lots of early industrial, darkwave, harsh noise and gloomy post-punk.

My curiosity for new sounds still remain, I'm still trawling the internet on a regular basis hoping to find an active and interesting spot like this board used to be in its heyday.

Solid follow up, more of a slow burn than Mating Surfaces. I'm sure it'll open up to me more and more on repeat listens.

Demo Tape / Re: R.A. Glasgow II - Post Punk/DIY
« on: June 12, 2020, 10:45:26 AM »
dig it...any physical releases?

Thanks! No offers yet... I'm probably going to compile them via that Kunaki record service Bradx posted about a ways back.
I would take some for sure. Would love to hear more

Florida's Dying right? Cool, thanks! I think I would have to go the CS route if I was to actually make a more than one, Kunaki is expensive...

You worked with acquaintances of mine, White Wires? I played in a couple bands with Luke and Ian.

Another live show to download/ listen to:

Clone Defects, Mistreaters @ Lyon's Den in Chicago, IL on March 14, 2003

Alright, so I have been using this extra time at home to sort, transfer, and catalog my live concert recordings. Here is a fresh transfer for anyone who wants. Enjoy and remember that you are able to download  sets as one long file by hitting the MORE button.

This is a great show. Not the best sound recording, but definitely catches the feel of the night. Lyon's Den was a little hole in the wall and I believe this was the only show I ever saw there.

Mistreaters were their usual swirl of chaos. Something must have happened at a recent show in Memphis because they were trash talking Memphis between songs most of the show.

Clone Defects were drunk and rockin. It takes a few songs for them to really get rolling, but the last half of the set is probably as good as the Clone Defects got when I saw them. Timmy seemed to be having a good time, eventually at least.

Not only are the times a bit more serious, but I am now having tech problems. Until I get those sorted things will be coming at a slower clip. Once again, thanks for listening and enjoy.

I enjoyed th Clone Defects set Cliff, big regret of mine that I never got to see them. I booked them once but they couldn't get across the border!
