Demo Tape / R.A. Glasgow II - Post Punk/DIY
« on: February 21, 2020, 06:51:30 AM »
I've been working on material for the last couple of years, after a long bout of creative block. Oh, the wonders of depression and divorce...

RIYL: PIL, African Head Charge, The Pheromoans...

Two new ones:

Baron Saturday-Train of Dreams

I have been enjoying this the past week and a half; feels a bit noisier and looser than the first one, and has been a great soundtrack when getting home after some long, tiring cold winter days at work lately. Super excited for whatever else comes out of the Midnight Mines camp this year with their goal of releasing something every month this year. 2 for 2 so far for me.

Cindy Lee-What's Tonight To Eternity

Cindy Lee is in my top favorite current artists, and this one is probably Pat's most approachable album as a whole as Cindy Lee. There's one track that reminds me of the synthesizers from the soundtrack to the Neverending Story that puts me off a tad, but everything else sounds pretty great as he's perfecting blending dark and noisy sounds with a girl group vibe more each album. Every Cindy Lee album has gotten better with age, and the songwriting here is top notch.

Is it Pat doing the vocals in Cindy Lee? I've always wondered...

Music Shit / Re: 2010-2019 : records of the decade
« on: February 11, 2020, 08:37:56 AM »
2010: White Fence - White Fence
2011: Total Control - Henge Beat
2012: Condominium - Warm Home
2013: Strange Attractor - Back To The Cruel World
2014: Neutral - Gra Vag Gamlestaden
2015: The Shifters - The Shifters
2016: Midnight Mines - If You Can't Find A Partner Use A Chair
2017: The World -  First World Record
2018: EXEK - Ahead Of Two Thousand
2019: Kneeling In Piss - Tour De Force

2013-2017 were hard to pick out actually, I don't think I listened to anything then. I only got back into underground music at the tail end of 2017... Nevertheless, it was a great decade for music.

Cool, glad to be of service. Too short, unfortunately... I loved the Bruce Cole anecdote.

Have you listened to Mr. Quintron with your co-worker?

I recently downloaded a VCS synth app for my iphone. So I've been exploring records focused on that synth. On my way to the office today I was listening to Crystal Machine - Tim Blake, great record and showcase for the instrument. Stand out track was "Last Ride of the Boogie Child". For those interested, Tim Blake was a member of Gong and Hawkwind, I'm not sure which eras though...

I started to listen to Jen-Michel Jarre - Oxygene last night but didn't finish the record, wasn't bad but it wasn't grabbing me either.

I'm listening to a Canadian (my bretheren) podcast about the SST catalog it's called You Don't Know Mojack, I strongly recommend it too, I'm not going in order but the Chris Desjardin interview about Devine Horsemen was really fascinating!

Tom Lax interview on Sandpaper Lullaby. Listening to it right now, no comment, stoked to hear it.

Thanks for the intel. Listened and enjoyed.

I've been working in a shop lately where my only co-worker almost exclusively listens to music featuring the Hammond organ, so I'm constantly trolling the net for obscurities to throw his way, praying for a "Hammond special" of some lost WFMU show to surface. After six months of on-the-clock research I can safely conclude that Larry Young is the pinaccle of the instrument, particularly his Lawrence of Newark album, though the co-worker, being privvy to earlier pioneers like Big Joe Patton, contests this. Sometimes we listen to Deep Purple and/or the Meters.

Oh man, totally forgot about Baby Buddha! I used to have the "Stand By Your Man" single. Great shit. Thanks for the reminder!

Wholeheartedly agree! Dark Entries reissued some of their stuff in 2018, I haven't listened to it yet.

Post Los Microwaves band on Posh Boy, a little more tweaked out than Los Microwaves, has a touch of Flying Lizards with a NY no-wave funk going on. Enjoying it, I'm now on my second play of the album.

Listened to this comp on the 8track app.

Love the band Thug, need to track down their singles.

The old ITR site had them in the mail order section, new site doesn't but I'd bet Larry still has a cache of them. Shoot him an e-mail?

If i remember correctly he also had dead stock of the South Bay Surfers and that Bassholes 7" that Bim had put out, Interzone? Maybe the Hairy Pitt Band too?

One can only be hopeful this occurs.

Oh never mind, they missed out on the auction...

How much did the guitar end up going for?

That fundraiser was set up by Telephone Explosion. It made almost $500? People be crazy/Life be funny.

$2500 which is $3100 canadian rubles.. It got some news traction with Chartattack magazine.

There is this bootleg floating around.
I know I've seen a physical copy on the net for purchase, can't find the link. Looks like only the Piss on your dog tack is on this thing.
