Music Shit / Re: Why does everybody shit on Burger
« on: August 09, 2017, 01:21:03 PM »
One of the 'v' guys got something right for once...Burger has definitely put out some solid reissues and probably some fine releases of their own, but they have also put out so much of that generic garage crap that has caused most garage turkeys of the 00s to go running for the hills (where 'the hills' = Total Punk, which I also feel is limited by its niche, even though it's one that'll take a few more years to totally run thin...but almost certainly will).  Plus, Rich seems like a great guy (I don't know him personally) and the Burger guys seem like total douchebags.

Nothing for me this time around, but some of my best TB set sale purchases have been from clif sales in the past.  Will always be happy to check out whatever you're unloading.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Twin Peaks 2016

Lately it's been like three fourths great and one fourth chore.  Most of this last episode fell closer to chore territory for me.

Music Shit / Re: Country Music Thread

Not really obscure or anything, but I also can't get enough of the Statler Brothers' "Flowers Onthe Wall" lately. Here's a great video of them playing it on the Porter Wagoner Show.

The verse for "Too Much In Love" by King Khan & BBQ may have lifted an idea or two from this song.

Tex Ritter's Blood on the Saddle is pretty good.  Compilations rather than LPs are usually the way to go with country music though...for me, at least.  I own tons and tons of country albums, and they're usually very good but rarely mindblowing.

The deeper parts of Charlie Feathers' discography are worth looking into.

Just listened to Sheer Mag for the first time...they've got vaguely the right approach but it sounds like Thin Lizzy filtered through early 00s generic indie rock and the vocals make me wish I didn't have ears.

Music Shit / Re: POLL: Do the smiths suck?

Anyone who can't admit the Smiths were a great band (despite what they might think of Morrissey) is trying too hard to be cool and/or macho.
had a 7" at some point in the way back. random small dose ok for me. richie, what sorta bloke am i? thanks in advance, a.

The sort of person who has to act like they're unaware of the Smiths outside of possessing a single 'back in the day', aka a transparent version of the too cool/macho scenario that Richie described above.

I probably haven't played more than 10 of their songs in the last ten years but some people on here just get out of hand.

The worst Smiths album is better than anything that's come out this year

David Namce is a very good record. The Silver Wings song is fucking with my head. Country song with noise guitar solo. FUCK. Pretty much everything I love about music in one song. Then the next song is a simple acoustic rocker with an electric piano player who sounds like they are having a seizure. A really good guitar rock record. This is really surprising to me because I did not really like the Goats Head Soup remake. Maybe I should re-visit.

That's the one song I really like on the Nance record for the exact same reasons you describe. Nothing else really stands out to me...just sounds like a compilation of imitations of his favorite artists (there's the Birthday Party song, etc.).  I've only listened once so maybe I'll change my mind.

I honesty can't muster enough interest to make it through more than 20% of this but I do find it very offensive that they find Austin to be a cool place.

I ordered mine early and got it on Monday, never got a notification that it had shipped or anything.

Do you have any idea which brand of shirt that Iron Maiden design will be printed on?  I'm right on the line between medium/large -- if it's slim fitting/"fitted", I usually have to go large, but otherwise medium.  (I definitely don't need to add yet another Maiden shirt to the collection, but I have no impulse control).

Music Shit / Re: FAVORITE COWS RECORD.

CS has never been one of my favorite Cows albums, either.  It's good, but I can't remember hardly any of the songs after I've listened to it...I probably even prefer the no-votes Sexy Pee Story.

I loved the first two episodes of the new Twin Peaks and found the third episode entertaining, but goddamn, it's a fucking slog at this point.  I can't take any more of braindead Cooper and none of the other plots seem to be going anywhere at all -- I guess the episode last night left some promising cliffhangers, but I feel like there will be a lot more of Lynch doing this slapstick dicking around before any of them get addressed.  There are a few other things that seem "off", too -- the Lucy/Andy scenes feel forced and just kind of out of place, and I didn't really enjoy Jacoby's comeback last week, either.  I'm a big fan, but the next episode has to get the train back on the tracks or else I might drop off for a while.
