Seems like it's about time that the initial lineup should be announced...

Awesome.  Is NOLA going to be at Siberia?

New Orleans isn't that great for record stores, but Domino Sound Record Shack is pretty decent.  Euclid sometimes has some good records but they'll be priced for way more than they're worth.

If you want to drink, I like:

Snake and Jakes (it attracts some shitty college kids being near Tulane, but it's still cool)
Milan Lounge
Twelve Mile Limit
Pal's
Kajun's Pub

...and a billion other places.  Or if you're a "totally rad dude" or gutter punk you'll want to hang out along the St Claude strip.

I've always thought Vinyl Conflict was kind of lame if you're not super into hardcore.  Steady Sounds is one of the five best record stores in the US anymore.

This thread has helped me not drink today, which was the day I was planning on having "just a beer or two."  I did end up backing out on my friend's barbecue, although that was as much for my own lack of motivation as it was that I wanted to avoid the beers.

I feel like I interact with people much better when I'm drunk.  I talk at length about most anything when I'm drinking, and I feel like I actually engage people (not just the alcohol talking...) as opposed to when I'm sober and feel like I have nothing to say and am generally super quiet.

My best friend from high school, and an old drinking buddy, is flying down to visit me next month and he doesn't know that I'm on this break right now.  That's going to be the one that's really trying.

I like that I have so much more time to read now, and that I can exercise without my heart feeling like it's going to explode.  I do miss going to shows and getting shitfaced though, and really wanting to rock out to whoever's playing.  When I go to shows sober, I usually stand off to the side and zone out until I realize my back really hurts from standing in one place for so long.  I do, of course, remember it better though.

Eh, weed's never done much but make me totally paranoid.  My body reacts much better to the really destructive drugs.

After six years of drinking myself into blackouts a few nights a week, I finally managed to quit drinking about a month and a half ago.  Lately, though, I've really been cutting myself off from friends and the outside world because I've been avoiding social situations in which I think I may be tempted to drink and it's been pretty depressing...I've spent lots of weekend nights alone in the house and I've missed a lot of shows that I'd otherwise want to see.  I also went through a really rough breakup a few months ago and my social circle pretty much imploded as a result of that.  Lately I've been wanting to try drinking in moderation just to see if I can do it and stick to it, but as soon as I have that first beer, all the effort I put into the last month and a half (I unsuccessfully tried to quit drinking several times before) is erased and I'm back at day one if I ever decide to quit again.  Considering how much some of you drink, I thought someone might have some advice on this.

(Not that I'd ever come to any of you fuckers with any other real life concerns).

I actually started this thread with Milwaukee in the title and then went back and edited it after posting.  I just pictured moving to Milwaukee in my head and then decided I could never actually end up there.  Assumed it sucked.  I will look into it.

The war that the cops have waged on the people?  Are you quoting me an excerpt from a pamphlet you picked up at an anarchist bookstore in Milwaukee?

If any of y'all have another recommendation (not from this list), I'd be more than happy to hear it (I don't mean that as a taunt, but just as a genuine request for other suggestions).

My original post pretty much covers it:

Cheap
Good food
At least some art/music

...that's about it.

Places I don't want to consider (either too expensive, too yuppie, too hip/fake, or some combination of all):

Austin
NYC
SF
Portland
Boston
DC
Philly (I do like it there, but I've just done it already)
Atlanta

...other than that, I'm pretty open.

How many times do I have to say "KILL COPS" before people start doing it?

You may as well just stop and find something else productive to do because nobody is going to kill any police officer just because you carry on ad nauseum like an infant about "killing cops" on a web forum.

Seriously.  I bet you at least 1 in every 1,000 Burger King employees has committed some kind of disgusting, despicable crime in their life.  Do you (Kevin) go around shouting your infantile bullshit about how we should kill fast food workers?  No, because that isn't ultra-macho-rebellious (i.e. teenage level bullshit) and PUNK RAWK!!!!  For every jackass cop that makes the news, there are 999 who are trying to do their jobs and protect citizens.

You poor thing, growing up as a picked-on nerd in WISCONSIN!!  You must have lived the hardest life in human existence (tied in first with bradx, of course)...you have a reason to FUCK UP THE SYSTEM!!!!  Save us, please!
