Didn't he write a song in the late sixties called "Cease to Exist" that was eventually done by the Beach Boys?  "Never Learn Not To Love" I think.  They didn't give him credit for it though, and boy was he piiiiiiissed.

I wish I had gone to Kinko's too.  Kinda wanted to photocopy me bum.  Instead I went to Kink's deli, around the corner, and talked to this fellow Simon.  An affable local with one hell of a knife scar around his neck.

Music Shit / soft boys bootleg
« on: October 12, 2007, 12:19:59 AM »
Yesterday I picked up this Soft Boys bootleg 7" at Academy Records.  It's got two live songs ("Give it to the Soft Boys" and "Heartbreak Hotel") b/w studio outtakes ("Which Of Us Is Me" and "Salamander").  I think it came out in '79.  The record itself is red vinyl, and it's labelled as "Leppo and the Jooves" on Black Snake Records.  I guess it's pretty neat stuff; I love Robyn Hitchcock and the Soft Boys and all that jazz...it set me back about eight bucks, but whatever.  Anybody have an idea of how much it's worth?

Yeah, I'm gonna have to order one of these 3rd pressing 7"s too.  Was there ever any formal release for NoBunny?

I just think it's all kinda dry and meandering.  Spitzz, too.  Sorry.  Let's pretend I never said anything.

turps fucking rule live!  as does tunnel of love!!

I'll be the first to admit that Tunnel of Love is a lot of fun live.  They're loud, abrasive, unpredictable...great performers.  But it needs to be experienced live.  The gimmick falls flat on its face on record, and the magic is gone.  Just like in the bedroom.

nicest people you'll ever meet, too.

that's a shame.  lots of time bad music is wasted by nice people.  sometimes assholes make great music.  it's a cruel world, really.

Yeah, I still haven't heard the new one yet, but "Cemetary Trails" is killer.  It's probably one of my most listened to records.  Saw them live last year with the Coydogs and the Spider Bags, who are also both fucking incredible.

I'm probably gonna get a lot of shit for this, but that's what I'm here for.  All these Boston punk bands out there now...not so hot, right?  There's like this Mafia of a select few that consists of The Curses, Tampoffs, Turpentine Brothers, Tunnel of Love, The Konks, and The Black Clouds.  I don't think any are too great.  Tampoffs are probably the best in the Mafia (their Daggerman split with the DC Snipers is great), but that's the only shit they've formally recorded and released.  So they're lazy.  Also, a lot of their songs sound like the Turpentine Brothers, who - and I'm sorry about this - are terrrrrrible.  I haven't seen them live, but I've heard their singles and that record and I'm still flaccid.  Apparenly they really don't care about our good times.  And then there's Red Invasion who's doing their glam thing, and then there's Social Circkle who is doing their fucking incredible thing.  That "Static Eyes" EP is probably the best thing to come outta Boston for years.

So I just washed down some nice Advil tablets with some nice Coors.  Is that a good idea?  Drew's all "Ohh noooo, that's a terrrrrrible idea!"  I don't really see why.  He taught himself "Happy Birthday" on the toilet a couple hours ago, so I guess that goes to show how much he knows.  Anyway, I guess we'll find out about the Advil thing.  Also, I am reeeeeaaaaaally constipated.  I just squeezed one out about the size of your average slim jim.  Somebody help me here.

Two kinds of advice not to ask for on the TB board:

1. Health
2. Love life

Yeah, but I haven't quite learned my lesson yet with this. Maybe next time?
