Music Shit / Re: Another record pressing question
« on: February 13, 2008, 12:22:03 AM »
well, it goes masterer by masterer. my guess is that that tunnel of love is a DMM (direct metal mastering), which is pretty much automated (and how a lot of the czech records are done). but that is a good question. maybe jacques knows?

well you got the answer :  automated cutting through DMM

Oh by the way dear Jeff there is no such thing as euro pressings. You are probably referring to the common czech pressings that most people are using.

There are some quality record plants in Europe of course. Like France RECORDS  (and before that SNA) in France or Eldorado in Germany to quote just two that do great work.

It's really weird, but if you've ever noticed that the pressing quality on Brazilian 60's EP's is really great. They're crammed with 3 songs a side and the bands are really close together. I guess you had some talented guys making plates back then.

Well thats the point indeed. I wouldnt play with fire but If you have some guy that you trust doing the lacquers and you can be there when he's cutting them, it shouldnt be a problem to make each side a little longer than usual. Factums See Inside Ep has 13 minutes of music at 33 rpm for instance. If you're using a record plant that does DMM without some human ears checking what's happening, it could turn into a disaster though.

im living in the swanky 7e, with this really awkward old woman, it's really cool but i mean it's definately not the kind of area i could afford a meal in or anything so i don't plan on sticking around here all day

Re: the swanky 7?
Dont miss the "Annees noires" exhibition at Musee Maillol.
It's killer. Those unseen Otto Dix woodcuts, postcards etc. are something.

Bought these today.

Echo and The Bunnymen 1st 7" on Zoo. One step closer to completing the Zoo catalog, have no idea why this one was so elusive for so long, I demanded to get it in a store, not online, so I suppose that's the reason. I love these early versions with the drum machines but I'm glad they recorded with Pete De Freitas for the LP.

That 1st Zoo 7" is so good. They should have stopped after that. Quit while you're ahead!
