For the Leatherface fans, we have just published an in-depth interview with Laurence Bell formerly of Roughneck Recording Co and currently of Domino Records. He was the man who put out all of the classic Leatherface albums in the 1990s, and the interview focuses on how he met the band (riding with Snuff!), his feelings on the albums (with Mush in great detail), lots of memories and behind the scenes info, and more. Laurence’s memory on the era was quite vivid, and he recalls it with a very sincere fondness.

Very cool, would like to hear about the Where Legend Began LP which in my opinion is also a total banger.

Not a bad idea. Thanks.

Negative Insight is a magazine and website covering late '70s-early '90s hardcore, punk, UK82, post punk, anarcho, crust, goth and related styles.

We have recently expanded to a full website with lots of comprehensive features being posted regularly. We focus on topics that we as fans care about and often try to uncover stories you don't know about bands you do.

Recent features we have run include an interview with Penny Rimbaud from Crass on the Captain Sensible (Damned guitarist) EP on Crass Records, a New Model Army interview focused on their early years, an interview with Frenchy Gloder of Flicknife Records about releasing the record that saw Lemmy reunite with Hawkwind in 1984, No Future Records, and more. We have many more planned.

Today, Armageddon Label announces February 14th as the international release date for two 12" vinyl releases from America's Malleus: a remastered version of the band's Storm of Witchcraft debut, originally released in 2016 and hard to attain, and 2018's Night Raids EP. On that same date, Armageddon Label will release a CD version of Storm of Witchcraft with the entirety of Night Raids as bonus tracks.

Malleus was formed in 2014 by The Hammer (guitars), The Relentless (drums), and The Channeler (bass, vocals). The band devoted the initial two years of their existence developing their sound and crafting the songs that would ultimately become their first full-length album. Summoning influences from classic first-wave black metal bands such as Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, and Bathory, Malleus created their own stripped-down, full-force brand of heavy metal.

Storm of Witchcraft was initially self-released by the band on cassette in 2016. The following year, the album was given a formal vinyl and CD release by Sweden’s Blood Harvest Records, and a subsequent expanded pressing is now slated for release by Armageddon Label in early 2020.

In 2017, Malleus embarked on a tour of the US West Coast in support of Columbia’s Witchtrap. Upon completion of the tour, The Channeler announced he would be departing the band after recording their planned EP. In preparation for this transition, the band employed the services of a long-time comrade, The Watcher, to take over the role of bass guitar and assist in final development of the new material.

In the winter of 2018, Malleus entered the studio to record a follow-up EP to display their rapidly evolving sound. The Night Raids 12” would eventually see its release in October of the same year. Aggressive, evil, and assaulting, the material on this EP, albeit only two tracks, sees the band starting to establish their own identity. While it certainly harkens back to all of their initial influences, it demonstrates that the band’s personal progression has only just begun.

The Sceptre was soon brought on board to take over vocal duties, ultimately completing the lineup of the band that exists today. The remainder of 2018 was devoted drilling the existing material and putting it to practice with select live performances throughout the northeastern United States.

2019 has been a year of discipline and development for Malleus. The band has remained hermetic for the majority of the year, abstaining from performing live in order to focus on writing material for their second full-length album, which is expected to be completed this year.

In the meantime, hear the remastered version of "Winds of Wrath / Ire" from Storm of Witchcraft along with Night Raids:

EARLY WARNING - October 27th - Malleus - "Storm of Witchcraft" on Blood Harvest Records on vinyl, CD, and cassette. From the label...

"Blood Harvest Records sets October 27th as the international release date for the highly anticipated debut album of America's Malleus, Storm of Witchcraft, on CD, 12" vinyl, and cassette tape formats.
(Vinyl & Cassette release dates t.b.a.)
Originally self-released during the autumn of 2016 but only digitally and on tape, so enthralled by Malleus' endlessly headbanging filth was Blood Harvest that the label just HAD to release it on ALL physical formats! Like a relic from a lost time, Storm of Witchcraft rages forward on a rusty 'n' crusty axis of Hellhammer, debut-era Bathory, and early Celtic Frost. However familiar it may sound on paper - and in execution, more so - Malleus nevertheless evince an engaging elan that's equal parts devilish fun and all-out evil, splitting the difference between alcoholocaustic gallop and dread-inducing downtempos. And it's aptly titled, too: Storm of Witchcraft possesses that ancient, old-world aura that puts this safely beyond simple "party music." No matter how you choose to process it, Storm of Witchcraft is a poisonous first strike for Malleus!"
