New Releases For Sale/Distro Updates / Re: Leather Bar hype

I heard White Cop vinyl and sleeves were ready but he was waiting on stamps for the center labels. This was a few month's ago, and he hasn't been back in touch since. I'm sure he'll come through eventually, and I kinda empathize w/ deadshit/disorganized label guys (excepting outright shills like Tobias Vagina/Trouble(being a)man etc. who are actively thieving from their customers), especially when they're obviously Punks w/ good intentions and taste.

It would be a shame if WC 12" didn't surface though, Alex/degenerate's art work was phenomenal! It's also..um..an incredible record.

was there three of these total or just two? i seem to remember hearing something about their being three, which would eventually be compiled onto an lp release. probably not on the mark here, but that would be a noble gesture: the two i have are fucken great.

AXEMEN Press: "The Axemen started in Christchurch in 1981, a time when New Zealand and Flying Nun records in particular were stirring up a major musical waves (ones that were felt in countless 1990's US indie bands and are still being felt today especially disciples like TNV), yet the sweeping, strummy pop element that was evident in many of the Nun's stable was only a part of the fuzzy picture that was the Axemen. The band's central core of (Little) Stevie McCabe, Bob Brannigan, and Stu Kawowski recorded in both cheapo home mode and in traditional studios, but setting had little to do with the wide-swing of directions that are evident wherever you drop a needle (or cue up a tape). There's tons of basement weirdness nodding to the more antisocial Velvets and Swell Maps moments, scatterings of drunken White Album recreation attempts, even moments where they sound like Royal Trux way before their time. When they played at Union Pool in Brooklyn last week I could swear they were going for a Stackwaddy/Doors thing, but then they became Half Japanese with Stevie playing sax solos on guitar. In Axemen recordings, they have one song about Elmer Fudd that sounds like Psychic TV, and another that is totally inspired by Grandmaster Flash. They even did a full album of Elton John songs. I have a feeling that if Flying Nun gave them the giant studio budget like they did Straitjacket Fits they would have come up with an album just as great as their Big Cheap Motel and Scary! Part III cassettes that Siltbreeze thankfully reissued in 2009." - Brian Turner/WMFU

"Originally seeing the light of day on the Flying Nun label in 1985, 3V?s ('Three Virgins' 2xLP) is a broad canvas of sound, seemingly channeling other likeminded cornerstones of fringe rumble such as ?Trout Mask Replica?, ?Exile On Main Stree?t & ?Tago Mago?." - Siltblog

"Normally, when people use the phrase ?a musician?s musician,? it?s meant to describe some Les Claypool nightmare whose dexterity and technical skill can only be properly appreciated by people who have also dedicated themselves to a life of fretless guitars and sweep arpeggios. That being said: When New Zealand?s Axemen want to be, they?re musicians? musicians. It takes some effort to crack the self-serving exterior of their approach (getting drunk, recording off-the-cuff songs with whoever was hanging around, and releasing as much of it as humanly possible) but, as anyone who?s ever tried this approach themselves can attest, it?s completely intoxicating as long as you don?t muck it up by throwing in any pretensions of sophistication. By making their methods obvious and leaving very little to the imagination, Axemen have created a bunch of music that perfectly encapsulates the feeling of fucking around creatively with your friends. " - Dusted

band had copies of 'walk into the sea' as of fairly recently. that's how i copped a copy.

Yeah, but the drumming itself on Youth is kinda weak, not just the sound. Doesn't really detract from the album, which is a testament to Mr. Cranky, Greg Sage.

Purling Hiss, on the other hand, blows. Weak attempts at PSF worship, says Mr. Cranky Jr. me.

really? everything after the first lp sounds way more song based, and i dunno, ..lo-fi american (??!!) than that.

Unfortunately, Mr. Runners has been out of commission for the last few months. Look for his return next month interviewing one of his favorite film makers. And who better to review all these garage rock records that keep showing up unannounced in my mail box?

Still have the last couple copies of Slug Guts 'Livin' Evil' live LP w/ handjob cover. Also was returned 5x copies of the OOP Blank Realm 'Hey! Little Child' one sided Jukebox Club 7". Buy it and a zine for 15 dollars or under! Do not wait!
