New Releases For Sale/Distro Updates / Zero Boys "History of" bootleg LP?
« on: November 20, 2008, 10:04:27 AM »
Anybody know anything about an LP bootleg of the Zero Boys' "History of..." cassette?

I know Family Vineyard is planning legit reissues of "Vicious Circle" and the "History of" cassette (on vinyl & CD). Maybe someone got mixed up and this bootleg is actually the version Family Vineyard is doing?

Today I got wind of a conspiracy theory that Obama isn't actually going to Hawaii to see his dying grandmother, but to destroy the original copy of his birth certificate, in secret. That's why he wouldn't let the press or his family come with him And why would he do that? Well, because the birth certificate proves he wasn't born in the US, thus making him ineligible to run for President of course.

While I'm no expert on birth certificates, I'm not sure why the original would be in Hawaii if that's not where he was born. But that's besides the point I guess.

Any other good conspiracies?

New Releases For Sale/Distro Updates / Druid Perfume LP
« on: October 23, 2008, 02:53:16 PM »
I'm posting this now, against by better judgement. But fuck it, I'm really fucking excited to announce the upcoming release of the Druid Perfume LP

It sounds like it looks. Featuring 3/5 of the Piranhas (Jamie, Brian and Ryan), this fucker takes weird punk to the next level. Should be out in December, barring any hold-ups. Since I'm posting this now though, I've probably just jinxed myself. Everything is being sent off tomorrow. 500 on brown vinyl. It's really, really, really good.

NO FUCKING PRE-ORDERS ! NO FUCKING PRE-ORDERS ! NO FUCKING PRE-ORDERS ! NO FUCKING PRE-ORDERS
This is coming out on a little boutique label called PIGS*, run by myself and Mitch Cardwell. We'll post ordering information once it gets closer to coming out. But in general look for the usual distros to get a copy. Neither of us really want to deal with mailorder shit. And distros, feel free to contact me [mark <at> ickibod.com] now if you're interested, but like I said, it won't be out until December.

*named after the icky boyfriends song.

Non-Music Shit / 99 Bottles of Beer
« on: August 22, 2008, 09:20:46 AM »
A feature in the new issue of Fortune magazine (gotta keep up on my investments, you know):

http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/storysupplement/beer/2008/

Cool old bottles, how long brands have been around, whether or not they're still brewed, and who owns them now. Kinda like a Major Labels who owns what chart, but for beer.

Just saw this on the PowerHouse books website:

By Nathan Nedorostek & Anthony Pappalardo

Hardcore music emerged just after the first wave of punk rock in the late 1970s. American punk kids who loved the speed and attitude of punk took hold of its spirit, got rid of the ?live fast, die young? mind-set and made a brilliant revision: hardcore. The dividing line between punk and hardcore music was in the delivery: less pretense, less melody, and more aggression. This urgency seeped its way from the music into the look of hardcore. There wasn?t time to mold your liberty spikes or shine your Docs, it was jeans and T-shirts, Chuck Taylors and Vans. The skull and safety-pin punk costume was replaced by hi-tops and hooded sweatshirts. Jamie Reid?s ransom note record cover aesthetic gave way to black-and-white photographs of packed shows accompanied by bold and simple typography declaring things like: The Kids Will Have Their Say, and You?re Only Young Once.

Radio Silence documents the ignored space between the Ramones and Nirvana through the words and images of the pre-Internet era where this community built on do-it-yourself ethics thrived. Authors Nathan Nedorostek and Anthony Pappalardo have cataloged private collections of unseen images, personal letters, original artwork, and various ephemera from the hardcore scene circa 1978-1993. Unseen photos lay next to hand-made t-shirts and original artwork brought to life by the words of their creators and fans. Radio Silence includes over 500 images of unseen photographs, illustrations, rare records, t-shirts, and fanzines presented in a manner that abandons the aesthetic clich?s normally employed to depict the genre and lets the subject matter speak for itself. Contributions by Jeff Nelson, Dave Smalley, Walter Schreifels, Cynthia Connolly, Pat Dubar, Gus Pe?a, Rusty Moore, and Gavin Ogelsby with an essay by Mark Owens.

Hardcover, 7.25 x 10.75 inches, 224 pages, over 500 four-color and black-and-white images
ISBN: 978-1-57687-472-1

California Extreme is the "Classic Arcade Games Show". It's an annual celebration of coin operated pinball machines, video games and other novelties you once found in game arcades. All games on display are set for free play, so leave your quarters in the ash tray in your car. You won't need 'em.

This weekend, in San Jose. Hundreds and hundres of pinball machines and video games, old and new.

Info: http://www.caextreme.org/

Looks like they upped the price since I last went about four years ago. But if you like pinball & video games, I promise you'll get your $35/$30 worth. Here's a partial list of the machines that will be there this year.

Non-Music Shit / On-Demand Magazine Printing
« on: June 19, 2008, 12:31:46 PM »
HP is launching a new on-demand magazine printing service called MagCloud. The modern age of zines? Worse than that?

While this could be cool, I forsee a ton of really shitty literary journals, and a general swamp of crap. But I guess since it's print-on-demand it's better than printing 1,000 copies of your shitty zine and having those float around, destined for the recycling bin.

Upcoming Shows/Tours/Events / Early Warning: Photo Show 6/19 (SF)
« on: June 09, 2008, 03:57:20 PM »

So I'm finally having a fucking photo show. It's all live and tour photos, from the past 15 years, about 70 prints in all. The details:

LIVE/LOUD: This is Rock 'n' Roll
Hamburger Eyes Photo Epicenter
26 LILAC ST. (behind the McDonald's at 24th/Mission)
June 19th - July 6

Opening is June 19th, 6 - 10 p.m. There will be some beer/booze/food, but only for the early birds, so you might wanna BYOB. I will be selling prints (and am going to try and work out some kinda deal if you just want a cheap, but cool 8x10) and that shit, but mostly it'd be great to see lots of people there.

And if anyone of you know of places in other cities (coffee shops, record stores, galleries, anywhere) that might be up for hosting the photo show, get in touch.

Upcoming Shows/Tours/Events / SF: Let It Bleed - Stones '69 Tour photos
« on: February 28, 2008, 11:13:46 AM »
Rhino is releasing a gorgeous, limited and fucking expensive book, Let It Bleed, collecting photos that Ethan Russell took on the Rolling Stones '69 tour.

In conjuction with the release of this book, San Francisco Art Exchange is having a photo show of Russell's pictures from the book, March 1 - April 4.

The book, the prints, everything is far, far outta my price range, but it's free to see the prints at the gallery. After reading Stanley Booth's "True Adventures of the Rolling Stones" about ten times, it'll be awesome to see some of these photos all giant and in person.

San Francisco Art Exchange
458 Geary St

Gallery hours
Sun-Wed 10:00am-6:00pm
Thurs-Sat 9:00am-10:00pm

Bringing in the New Year with a batch of records on eBay. Trying to clear out some duplicates and just generally thin the herd. I'm tired of lugging this shit around.I'm selling a lot of this stuff in lots, from 2 7"s up to 25 7"s.

Here's a small sample of what's up...though I know most of this won't be of interest to the refined tastes that populate this esteemed messageboard.
