Music Shit / Re: Punk 8 Tracks?
« on: September 11, 2019, 10:00:24 AM »
I collect them, but not in that I pay money for them. I always check 8-tracks when I see them at flea markets, etc. I've turned up a few good ones, most notably the first Dead Boys album and the first MC5 album.

I don't listen to them though...I don't have an 8-track player.

Back in the heyday this thread would have made it to worse than pop punk before it could even get the first reply.

I'm surprised this thread made it to two pages.

Liked the performances but overall season was meh. Prefer the ridiculousness of season 2 over this one.

Agree. Not terrible, but like Mitch said, least interesting of the three. I actually liked season 2 pretty well. Don't know why people shit on it so hard. It was really different than the first season, but that's not a bad thing.

Upcoming Shows/Tours/Events / Re: Radio Birdman documentary

Brutally honest documentary. I left the theater feeling pretty sad, but glad this film was made. Totally worth seeing.

Yeah, no hiding the current (and long-standing) acrimony. Pip in particular was kind of brutally honest in his opinions...not in a dickish way, just very clinical. Oh, and thankfully no Jello, Ian, Henry, Thurston, Dave Grohl or the usual gang of music documentary talking heads.

The filmmaker had copies of the DVD for $20. So if they aren't available elsewhere, I'm guessing they will be soon.

Got to see the Radio Birdman documentary in SF last night. Definitely worth checking out if it makes it to your town. The filmmaker is touring around North America right now showing it. I guess Deniz Tek will be at the screening in NYC.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Regional punk books/documentaries

"I'm interested in finding out any books/documentaries about the Texas"

Yeah million dollar question, is there anything out besides the "Bloodstains" comp? I have been obsessed with Texas punk since the RHINO Hardcore series (Dicks, Bobby Soxx) and I'm not familiar with much besides the obvious band comps (Dicks anthology, for example). What else is there? I know there is the footage of the Pistols in Dallas so there are some punk kids outside of that...what else? I know there is random youtube footage.

Not a book, but the "Deep In the Throat of Texas" comp is excellent, with good liner notes. Also, some great, deep info on some Texas bands over on breakmyface.com. Nothing comprehensive on the larger TX scene though that I know of.

Man, it's so weird to read about the Vulgar Boatmen in the New Yorker. It seemed like they played like every weekend night at the Vogue back in the late '80s and early '90s.

Still not into them, but cool they're getting attention.

It's gonna hurt to cut up my insert for that Live Bad Times

Facts. Bet that is the point though. Too late for me anyway.

Yeah, I'll just bite the bullet and cut it.

It's gonna hurt to cut up my insert for that Live Bad Times LP.

Don't suppose a photocopy will suffice, will it Eric?

Non-Music Shit / Swiss Rebels photobook
« on: September 07, 2017, 08:01:53 AM »
This book looks pretty awesome.

SWISS REBELS
Karlheinz Weinberger?s day job may have been relatively uneventful?working in a Siemen?s warehouse?but the photos he took in his spare time are anything but conformist. Weinberger?s passion, and the focus of this book, is the rebel youth of 1950s and ?60s Switzerland, who channeled American rock-?n?-roll culture and made it their own with their rolled-up jeans and denim jackets, bouffant hairdos, striped T-shirts, and customized belts boasting images of Elvis and James Dean. Weinberger?s lusty, free-spirited and self-confident portraits posit the defiant attitude of youth as a response to the conservative post-war era. Swiss Rebels also includes homoerotic images of rockers, bikers, construction workers and athletes, many of whom occupy positions outside of social norms. This publication is the first to present an overview of Weinberger?s provocative oeuvre.
