First three singles are great (well, the third is just okay), and as everyone has said, the LP is a big letdown, especially after the "Cola Freaks" 7". I regret selling my copy of their first 7".

Streets on Fire remains my all-time favorite. I used to watch the shit out of that and Sick Boys.

The Source - Isis And Electricity Aquarian
Newish book on Father Yod / YaHoWa13 and the cult.  Always been interested in the band and Father Yod, but this lays it all out there.  Worth it alone for the pictures.  Written by one of Yod's wives from a still-believing standpoint, so it seems pretty light on "the dirt" and goes more into the whole belief structure and personalities that I initially expected.  The author also washed Yod's feet with her own hair, which I find revolting on at least 19 different levels.  Still...these folks partied.  Comes with a CD that you will listen to once and file away forever.  Also, I'm buying a bottle of their salad dressing ASAP.

I've had their tea before...Seth Mahern served it to me while we listened to part of the box set. The tea was really good. I imagine the salad dressing would be good too, right?

Reading:

A Feast of Snakes (by Harry Crews) -- finally reading it after getting thoroughly sucked into "Blood & Grits" earlier this year.

Driftless (by Danny Wilcox Frazier) -- a new photobook, focuses on Iowa, kind of just timeless Midwest livin' type photos. Great black & white work.

Upcoming Shows/Tours/Events / Bay Area: Mick Rock photo exhibit
« on: November 14, 2007, 05:01:07 PM »
This seems to have gone under the radar a bit, but there's a big Mick Rock photo exhibit at the San Francisco Art Exchange (458 Geary St) going on until Nov. 30.

I'm not sure if they're showing everything that's on the website, but there's lots of old Bowie & Iggy photos (including the original photo from the Raw Power album cover), the photo from the Ramones' End of the Century album cover, pics of Syd Barrett, Lou Reed, Bryan Ferry, Joan Jett...and lots of shit hole rockers.

And if you have a few grand laying around, you can buy prints...

Non-Music Shit / Re: Have You Ever Been Robbed?
« on: November 12, 2007, 01:56:51 PM »
I've never really been robbed on the street, but I used to get jumped in Indianapolis all the time, either by rednecks looking for a "skater fag" to beat up, or some blacks dudes looking for...any white kid to jump.

Living in the Bay Area for about 8 years, I've never had any really bad encounters at all.

But living in London for four months: I got jumped by 7 teenagers while I was sitting on the bus (they tried to take my camera, but I held on to it); stopped and questioned by the anti-terrorist task force (for taking pictures near a police station, and, coincidentally, near one of the Tube stations that got blown up a few years ago); and -- the worst -- my flat got broken into about two days before I was leaving (and two days after returning from Kiev). The only thing they took was my watch, my iPod and my laptop. Unfortunately, my laptop had a week's worth of photos from the Orange Revolution in Ukraine. Fortunately, they were all backed up. Unfortunately, they were backed up on my iPod. So I lost pretty much all my digital photos from that trip. Bummer.

7" slam vs Inhuman Eating machine..

TACO FACE OFF!

EXACTLY what I was thinking! That will be amazing.

Steve, unfortunately I can't offer you a place to crash (my place is tiny -- two people and two cats in a studio apt), but I am more than happy to help out with your food adventures and any touristy shit you wanna do. It'd be great to have you out here.

Leftover chips from Farolito and coffee. I had half a carnitas torta to eat too, but it wrecked Sarah's stomach, so I pitched it.

Just as well, I'm saving room for cake when I get home!

Sorry to disappoint, but Greg moved out of the Castro. He lives in the East Bay now. I'm sure he's still got all that stuff though.

I think he is one of the most photogenic dudes, ever. even when he's making a dumb kissy face!

Funny, I was once told by a photographer that I was the most unphotogenic person he'd ever taken a picture of. I tend to agree with him, but thanks for the compliment Megan!

And thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. Since we're sharing photos, here's my personal fave:

Does anyone have any decent Eddy Current Suppression Ring photos by chance? I interviewed them for MRR and am looking for pics to go with the interview.

If so, can you get in touch? (mark <at> ickibod<.>com)
