Non-Music Shit / Re: Big Mistakes

I am a big, big fan of White Castle. Top to bottom their menu is great...from the classic hamburger to the double bacon jalepeno cheeseburger (the french onion burgers were great too); from chicken rings to clam strips. It's all delicious.

Usually I'll go for a surf 'n' turf combo: two fish sandwiches and two cheeseburgers...or just a six pack of cheeseburgers and an order of fish nibblers. On the Battleship tour we would regularly stop for a crave case whenever a White Castle was in sight.

Fear and Loathing on the Campaign trail is defintely one of Hunter S Thompson's finest, but it was McGovern/ Nixon.  Humphery/ Nixon was 68

I was drunk. I have no idea why I wrote Humphrey...except that I was drunk when I made my list. Of course it was McGovern. Thanks for catching that.

"Legal reasons" have been cited as why the Dead Kennedys aren't in American Hardcore.

I think that's total bullshit though since they could have at least had other people talking about the Dead Kennedys, even if -- for whatever reasons -- they couldn't show old photos, record covers, footage or have former members talking. You know, like have Paul Z talk about what a huge influence DK had on Midwest hardcore bands and they really opened the door for punk bands to tour...or whatever...

I've been listening to "Hutch Brown Sayingwich" a lot lately. Great record. Like Scott said, due to their lately output they won't be remembered for what they should be.

I'll have to check out their last album, on Mr. Anchovies' recommendation.

I highly doubt this was re-pressed. Great find...this is definitely one of the best one-off KBD type comps!

Yeah..."Not Distinctly Yugoslavian???"

How is it NOT distinctly Yugoslavian? They were Yugoslavian kids making punk music. Can't get much more Yugoslavian than that.

Sure, they were trying to ape the sound of the UK & US punk (like ANY other country who had punk bands...then or now), but being born & raised in Yugoslavia, these bands definitely put their own stamp on the sound.

I got a grab bag in the mid-90s that had a bunch of really good power pop stuff (20/20 7", M'n'M's 7", etc), so I ordered this new grab bag and was disappointed, to say the least. I'd pass on it...

Definitely a great compilation.

Pekiska Patka is great, but so are the tracks by Prljavo Kazaliste...Pankrti, Paraf. So much good stuff on that comp.

Kinda stupid, comparing two different bands who sound nothing alike, but happen to have the same name.

Who the fuck cares?

They were great. They started the set with two lackluster covers (including a kinda weak cover of "Can't Stand the Midwest") and one of their lesser known songs (Toys in the Attic) but then played the entire Vicious Circle album, in order, pausing only between the a/b sides. I don't think I've heard them do that before and it was fucking awesome.

They did the thing where they played a medley of '60s garage songs, which I've found only really works when the crowd is into it. This time, the crowd was into it. Plus it provided a nice little breather from the non-stop barrage of them playing the entirety of Vicious Circle.

They also played a song called "Arthur Lane" that I don't think I've heard them ever play before, and don't know if it's a cover or a new song. I wish they'd play "Indianapolis" sometime. Also no, "I'm Bored."

All in all, an excellent show, even though about 2/3 of the crowd left after "Bloomington is the Next Seattle" legends Speed Luxury played.

Anyways, get yourselves a Rippers lp folks.

The Rippers are highly under-appreciated here in the States.
