Cities / Re: I'm in Los Angeles. What should I do?
« on: June 24, 2010, 09:21:08 PM »
So, I'm back in LA again now, but only for a couple days, with a pretty tight work schedule, but I wanted to add a few of the better things I've done here on the thread.

Driving on random roads between the Valley and PCH today while I was supposed to be at work. FUCKING awesome. Ended up on some weird One-way route with stop signs and rock slide warnings every 300 feet. It was incredible.

Going to Las Fuentes Mexican joint out on Reseda for the Chili Relleno Burrito. I went here about 3 years ago when I used to  travel from NYC to work in Santa Barbara. This particular Burrito is one of my faves for 6 bucks.

Arcana Booksellers in Santa Monica. This is the best Artists Book store I've ever been in. Going back tomorrow for a few hours because today I didn't have enough time to digest it all!!

Oh man. What the fuck. I couldn't figure out how to add postage to the goddamn paypal shopping cart at the Label website, so I didn't get one. I'm so lame.

You gotta love a guitarist named Bagpipes.

The rest of the LP is certainly different from MO, but I think its killer. More like synth-jams and such. I remember when it walked in the door at the record shop a couple years ago, the cover stopped me dead in my tracks. It had to be good. It is.

I think if you've got those two, you are covered.

Someone re-reissue Blues Creation "Demon And Eleven Children" so I can buy a copy. And  Buffalo "Volcanic Rock".

Wasn't that Buffalo around for a minute too?  But yeah, two good choices.

Yeah, i think Akarma did it at some point. Can't even find that version.

Had the first Buffalo LP that Akarma did, and it totally stunk!!!! The 2nd one much much better???

Not in stock at Permanent in Chicago

They've been selling for anywhere from 60 to 100 bucks for a long while. With the occasional 14.99 with one bid action.

Still Nicholls-less around here.

The Cramps - Songs The Lord Taught Us
Picked up a cheap OG recently at Grooves, a classic album that I avoided for so long due to rockabilly homos in Pittsburgh loving them, but then I listened to this album and had an instant change of heart.

buy everything w/ bryan gregory and kid congo.  proceed with caution after that.

TRUE DAT. Vinnie. You gotta catch up with this shit. Some of the best music ever.

I say it everytime, but I ditched all my original LPs after I heard the OHIO DEMOS. Those are the best.

Arturo, there are two on this page that I am also interested in. Hold all collages until I can see them in person.

I don't know what all that means. I guess I've missed something bigger than I realized.

That thread got erased? Why? It was pretty informative, and helpful to the guy from the band. Will people be able to order the record from him still? Too bad.

Music Shit / AVE SANGRIA - S/T LP (1974 Brazilian Proggy Folk Psych)
« on: June 16, 2010, 06:49:46 PM »
I wanted to make a thread about one of my favorite records of late.

This LP is came out in 1974 and its one of the absolute best Brazilian Rock records to my ears.  Its an incredibly well rounded listen. At times recalling early Tyrannosaurus Rex, and at others sounding not unlike a Brazilian Black Sabbath or something, with some really tough, fuzzed out thug-rock instrumental passages.  The vocal delivery moves between an aggressive punky sneer and the aforementioned Bolan/Took chants. It all has the requisite laid-back latin percussion, and some really nice jangly leads as well. I just love this record and thought I'd post a link for the rest of you guys to check out.

If you are into Brazilian or South American psych, ala the OBSESSION compilation, Mutantes, Sandhy & Mandhy, or El Kinto,  etc.. you should definitely check this out. I hope it will be reissued sometime soon so everyone can own it on vinyl. It plays very nice as a two-sider!

More info and the downloadable album can be found pretty easily with a bloggy search.

Did you go to any of the Spectrum shows recently Eric? I went to both (one with light show, one with MGMT guys...ridiculous) and thought he was awesome. He's not doing electronic stuff. Its pretty much straight Spectrum/S3 the whole time. You know, like Silver Apples half the time and Hawkwind the other.

I don't think he lives in Brooklyn though you used to be able to find him passed out in DBA when he was around.  He's got that MGMT lot under a spell for sure, so maybe he's living with them.
