i ran into an old mate from highschool i hadn't seen in years on the train yesterday... he'd just got back from ny studying and apparently he did an internship @ vice (having no idea this was 'hip', he wants to be a sports journo) and worked on the vice answer to second life, "lower east side".... seriously.

to me, as an album, liquid swords is superior... cuban linx is just too long and has too many weaker moments, i find it hard to sit through a straight out listening of cuban linx without skipping tracks.... rae pioneering the mafiosa thing wasn't neccessarily good, how horrible is most subsequent shit?! even his own stuff. as far as rae/ghost  lyricism/interplay, ironman is massively slept on just cause their's a lot of more 'commercial' beats. i find a lot of rae's lyrics on ob4cl a bit tiresome at times, i mean i know it's a mafiosa concept album but he gets kinda carried away, gets a bit cheesy at times.

i can see what your saying about gza's delivery coming off as a bit sleepy at times, but i think that's part of his collected-wise-elder-of-the-wu appeal...

oh yeah, CLIPSE... beats are very digital which normally turns me off but these guys pull it off very well. best vocal deliveries i've heard in a long time, not that i keep very up to date with gangsta shit.

illmatic is classic, but not really 'hardcore'... some dipset is ok in a cheesy way, hell rell at least.
i must say 'the infamous' by mobb deep is probably the most consistent gangsta album through (besides 36 chambers), was kinda tarnished though by hearing they were apparently art school fakers.

Big L: Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous

"No dame can give me a bad name, I got mad fame
I'm quick to put a slug in a fag brain
I be placin snitches inside lakes and ditches
And if I catch AIDS, then I'ma start rapin bitches"

L has one of his best verses on REPRESENT by Showbiz/AG, seek that out.

second the Ready To Die call, "gimme the loot" is tough as... also MOP, alotta weak stuff but some kills it ("ANTE UP" is possibly the greatest club banger ever... well, maybe SIMON SAYS by Pharoahe Monch)... Wu of course; ironman, only built 4 cuban linx and liquid swords are all essential. Ras Kass is great too.
