Play semantics all you want, but the territory that currently comprises the state of Russia has never been a part of the Third World.

Additionally, the entire "world" system has been rendered obsolete by the fall of the USSR.

Some people seem to be a bit offended by the phrase as well...

That being said, I'm glad I don't live in Russia or the Third World.

The Wizzz comps on Born Bad are great. Lio from Liminanas gave Bill and I this really great Ye-Ye multi disk comp too but I can't think of the name right now.  Also check out the Liminanas new single on Hozac as well as the one coming out in a couple weeks on Trouble In Mind...they are doing great 60's style French pop

I have one of the Wizzz comps; it's ok, but I wish that I'd bought the other one

there are SO MANY y?-y? comps out there...I have probably 20 different discs on my computer

Hrmm...I'll have to check that out...never heard a single good track from that disgusting leather carcass

People in France fucking love him, though...like Elvis

I was in France in 2000 during some kind of Hallyday revival (60th birthday??) and it was the first time I'd ever heard of him. Every record shop had his pic up. It's like how no one from America has ever heard of the Shadows, but they are omnipresent everywhere else in the world as an influence.

Yeah...everyone flipped their shit a few months back when he had surgery and got very ill...he's the fucking king here...what a blowhard

Fran?oise Hardy is good, but her output as a strictly y?-y? singer is pretty slim...one LP and some singles...most of it crap but a few good songs.  Mon amie la rose is a great album, aside from the title track, but not really y?-y?.

I fucking love France Gall...so many great songs, and not just the Gainsbourg penned ones...her father wrote some brilliant ones as well.

Clothilde is cool but has, what, 3 EPs (and one of them is the same songs in Italian)?

There's a lot of great French music from that era, but you could argue that a lot of it isn't really y?-y?.

Sylvie Vartan's version of Comin' Home Baby (Ne t'en vas pas) is great, but I find her other stuff, aside from that Del Shannon cover, to be pretty fucking dull...her husband, Hallday, is a complete bore.

Hardy's husband on the other hand, Dutronc, is the man...though, once again, not so sure that I would style it as y?-y? as he actually has some substance to his lyrics, unlike most of that y?-y? shit.

There're a lot of y?-y? singers/French 60s bands with one or two good tracks (e.g. Les Chats Sauvages, Annie Philippe, Christophe, Stella, Natacha Snitkine, Antoine (again, is it y?-y??), Dick Rivers, Jacqueline Ta?eb, blah blah blah blah blah), but with most of it being boring, re-hashed versions of American/British pop stuff, or, even worse, behind the times late 50s/early 60s rock n roll in a cheesy voice .

This band is fucking horrible...

I saw the blonde once at Don Pedro's and she looked like Ronette Pulaski wandering across the bridge in Twin Peaks

Is that a real Hofner she's playing?

Oh, and are we really back to bashing the Vivian Girls? Come on.

I have nothing personal against them, I just really dislike their super shitty bullshit music...no soul, no songwriting, nothin'

What's the deal with this dude anyway?

It seems like a joke, but I'm leaning towards no.

That Jay Reatard "encounter" video is so painful

You should get both for the sake of convenience.  I wear contacts every day, but I wish that I had a pair of glasses for when I don't feel like putting them in.
