Updates, Updates, Updates.  I took a little break over the holidays, but things are now super busy around here.

First, I want to encourage you to head over to http://www.dullkniferecords.com and sign up for the mailing list. I send maybe one e-mail out a month, and you'll get first crack at any limited records.

Now to the news.

RTFO Bandwagon's 'Dums Will Survive' LP is very close to completion and I expect it to be out in probably 3 weeks.  Pre-order info will go out soon, and the first 50 orders will come with a special treat.

The first two records in the Dull Knife Songwriter Series go to press this week, and should be out in about 6 weeks.  I am pleased to announce that the initial entries will be from Richard Youngs and Dan Melchior, with each 7" in a hand-numbered edition of 300 that will release simultaneously.  The series will have consistent yet personalized packaging that will hopefully give you some sort of a glimpse of the people behind the songs.

The TwinSisterMoon (one half of the lovely Natural Snow Buildings from Vitre, France) 7" heads to press in February, and I have to say the combination of the music and packaging is pretty stunning.

Distros/mailorders please get in touch! dullknifeproject@gmail.com

Dull Knife will also be making the trek to SXSW along with some of the folks we've worked with and friends made along the way.  Here's what we have planned so far:

Upcoming Shows/Tours/Events / SXSW bands looking for a Houston show
« on: January 08, 2009, 11:27:05 AM »
i'm gonna set something up again this year, but be warned that i can probably only do a single show.  i lost my contact at the go to venue, so my only option is at a record store.  you'd be playing for donations.  people usually come through for the bands, and it's always a good time.  it's not a venue, so they only like me doing very sporadic shows.  i maaaaaaaay be able to talk them into two in a week, but it's doubtful.

basically just get in touch and let me know what dates you're looking for and i'll try put together the best show i can on a single date that seems to work.  most people usually want sunday, and it's usually the worst day possible but whatever.

i'll try to do what i can for folks on other days, but it's a tough week.  if i can't help you, i'll gladly give you contact information for people who might be able to work something out.

if you're interested, you can e-mail me at dullknifeproject@gmail.com until they show up the website.

New Releases For Sale/Distro Updates / Dull Knife bundle special + news
« on: January 07, 2009, 05:25:11 AM »
hey everyone.

the dull knife mansion is pretty tiny, and the living room is beginning to become overrun with record boxes.  with more releases on the way, i need to clear a little room.

from now until the end of january, you can purchase a bundle including the Rusted Shut - Hot Sex 12" and the Indian Jewelry/Future Blondes 12" for $20 postage paid in the US.  That's $5 off.

You can order the bundle using a convenient Pay Pal button on the main page at http://www.dullkniferecords.com

You can also substitute one of the records in the bundle for the Sisters - S/T 12", but you must send me a followup e-mail at dullknifeproject@gmail.com letting me know you wish to do so and which record you're swapping out.

In other news, the RTFO Bandwagon LP went to press this week.  It sounds great, and should be a surprise to anyone who thinks they have that band figured out.  The first two records in the Dull Knife Songwriter 7" Series from Richard Youngs and Dan Melchior will be following hot on the heels of the RTFO Bandwagon LP.

hi.  i'll be doing a 3 hour guest set on KTRU from 11am-2pm eastern.  that's in 40 minutes.

I'll be previewing tracks from the upcoming RTFO Bandwagon, Dan Melchior, twinsistermoon, and Richard Youngs releases on dull knife very early on if you'd like to hear them.  I'll also be playing a New Zealand set and whatever else I want.

you can stream live at http://www.ktru.org

Test presses have been approved and I expect the record to start shipping in 2-3 weeks.  First 20 orders will receive silkscreened test presses. Total pressing is limited to 520 copies, 20 of which are the aforementioned test presses.

Indian Jewelry is fresh off touring ALL YEAR and the release of their stunning sophomore album and offer their most epic jam to date.  11+ minutes of pulsating synths and two bass tracks.  It crams.

Future Blondes is Domokos of Rusted Shut fame sounding decidedly un-Rusted Shut. His side brings to mind the more beat oriented material of Muslimgauze, with it's mountains of phase and volume shift.  He invites you to manipulate his side as you see fit.  Dom was also once a member of Chrome/Helios Creed and pre-Indian Jewelry band Swarm of Angels, if you care about that sort of thing.

Prices:

US: $12.50 PPD
CAN/MEX: $13.50 PPD
REST OF THE WORLD: $24.00 PPD

You can conveniently order from the main page at http://www.dullkniferecords.com

Music Shit / Texas: Help! Can you drive Los Llamarada on tour?
« on: November 08, 2008, 11:11:14 AM »
The band took a bus from Monterrey, Mexico to Houston with plans of renting a car for their tour.  However, none of the members have credit cards, which virtually every rental agency requires for the deposit.  The two places we found that accept a cash deposit have unreasonable mileage caps.

So now the band is looking for a driver for 10 days.  You would need to rent a car in your name, but the band will pay you in cash.  They're very nice and you would have fun.  I'd love to do it, but it's too short notice for me to take that many days off.

Here are the our dates:

11.8 Austin @ Beerland w/ Secret Society of the Sonic Six
11.9 Denton @ Muscle Beech w/ Fungi Girls
11.11 Toledo @ Woodchucks w/ Tyvek, Wee, & Daniken
11.12 Brooklyn @ Charleston w/ Hank IV, Blues Control, Black & Whites
11.13 Hoboken @ Maxwells w/ Hank IV
11.14 New York @ Cake Shop w/ Hank IV, Imaginary Icons
11.15 Philadelphia @ Pilam House w/ FNU Ronnies, Hank IV, Watery Love
11.16 Columbus OH @ tba

Let me know ASAP!

I didn't put this out, but I have copies.  It's songs from the Rusted Shut S/t CD on Fleece Record, which compiles the bands material from 1992-1995.  200 copies and sold out from the source.

They are $12 PPD in the US, $14 PPD in CAN/MEX, and $25 PPD in the rest of the world.  Euros can save some scratch by waiting for copies to arrive at Volcanic Tongue if they like.

You can make payment via Pay Pal to dullknifeproject@gmail.com , or people in the US can conveniently order from the front page of http://www.dullkniferecords.com

PLEASE INDICATE THAT YOU ARE ORDERING THE "EARLY YEARS" 12" SO I DON'T CONFUSE IT WITH A "HOT SEX" ORDER.  THANKS!

I also still have copies of the Rusted Shut cd on Fleece available.  Includes the songs on the bootleg 12" plus 4 more.  $8 PPD in the US.

And I have copies of the Sisters LP on Parts Unknown and the Balaclavas 12" on Phonographic Arts available as well.

Music Shit / dull knife mix #6: shit-fi
« on: October 14, 2008, 04:07:04 PM »

Compiled by Stuart of http://www.shit-fi.com

Liners excerpt:

This mix serves as a minor introduction to the wonderful world of
bad music known as shit-fi. I don?t particularly like to define this
term, which I coined, because its parameters are amorphous and
historically situated. Nevertheless, shit-fi encompasses music that is
rigorously anticommercial, poorly played, even more poorly recorded,
and generally out-of-bounds (both in geography and sound). Many of the
bands either are not easily pigeonholed into a genre or else through
sheer exuberance, ineptitude, crapulence, or political extremity
transcend the confines of genre. A lack of traditional chops often
means that bands?accidentally or intentionally?end up discovering or
defining new genres that were heretofore unimaginable by those on the
inside of the music business. Anyway, it would be impossible to sample
even a small percentage of the music I characterize as shit-fi (and,
beyond that, I love plenty of music that doesn?t fit the term), but
here are 15 songs from four decades (sorry, 90s), six continents, and
something like 14 subtypes of shit-fi. I?ve focused on noisy
recordings, hybrid moments, and long-form melancholia.

Pretty terrific post punk from Houston. Dark and moody like a young Toiling Midgets. Tribal and apocalyptic like early Killing Joke (though a bit more stripped down and not as pretentious). Plus these guys have the key to what makes this style: A singer who can sing - S-S Records

Non-Music Shit / LP shipping boxes
« on: October 01, 2008, 04:10:27 AM »
so I thought I could find these easily, but it's proving to be tougher than i thought.

I found 13"x13"x13" boxes, but I also need something for suitable for shipping smaller quantities like 10-20 records.  Something around 5-7"x13"x13" range.

Suggestions?  I know they make them because I found one at the record store  from RTI/Touch & Go.
