I guess the best starting point would be to get the 2CD set which has tracks from every album.

That was my starting point, and I disagree with that advice. With bands like Can, I think you need to start with one of the albums. Their albums are so different from one another, the comp is just confusing or was for me. It didn't gel with me at all. But, I love their "peak" albums. I'd go with Tago Mago first, then Monster Movie or Ege Bamyasi.

Breaking Circus were pretty good, but to these ears, didn't really stand out enough to warrant the reissue treatment. I like Riflesport more, anyway.

I'm going to guess the rankings were NOT super meaningful. This was literally scribbled in one of his notebooks.

I know vinyl's superior blah blah blah, but if you just want to hear the sounds (and you should), you can get the CD reish for 4 bucks at Amazon.

I don't think he intended for this to be like the ultimate summation of his musical taste, but come on, dude had good taste. The stand out (as far as not really fitting) is REM. Strange choice.

You can tell the Olympia influence with the Raincoats and Marine Girls and shit like that.

I'm guessing it's not gonna get $99 again, it'll probably go down with every listing and then hover at the $30 mark. I could be wrong, of course.

I think you're probably right. There's several up there now with Buy It Nows for $95. Oversaturated. Of course, when I had like three legit copies of the "Grey Album," I put one up with a BIN of $30 or something, sold it within the hour, put another up at $50, sold it, put one up at $100, and someone bought it. Shit was crazy, son.....

I used to order from Sandbox a lot, too, back in the day.....like ten or eleven years ago.....Christ I'm old.

Chicago is good for disco and house records, but not hip-hop so much. It was never that popular here, but you still hear disco and house on commercial stations in the middle of the day. Kind of weird.

Druid Perfume is the best band name I've heard in a long time.

I'm going to have to check the MySpace when I get home. If the tunes are anywhere near as good as the name, I'm going to be thrilled.

From The Magic Land:

"At this time [Billy Bond's] will was to form an 'open' outfit; that is, a band which everybody could join and leave whenever wanted. La Pesada (The Heavy Guys), thus, seemed to be in a state of anarchy -but Billy was there to keep the order.

By the end of 1970, Billy Bond y La Pesada released their first album, on Music Hall label, comprising rock?n?roll, blues and hard-rock songs with psycho [sic] touches and humorous ironic lyrics. Featured musicians included Pappo, Luis Alberto Spinetta, Javier Mart?nez, David Leb?n, Vitico, Pomo, Black Amaya, Poli Mart?nez, Luis Gambolini, Nacho Smilari and Cacho Lafalce.

Consequently, La Pesada was the main backing band for the likes of Ra?l Porchetto, Sui Generis, Claudio Gabis, Maximiliano, Kubero D?az, Jorge Pinchevsky, Alejandro Medina and Pappo?s Blues, among others, during 1972 and 1973."

Kubero diaz - y la pesada (this has been shelved after one listen for the past year..finally pulled it out again and I don't know what the hell I was thinking.  Not only is the cover great but the album is pretty quality psych)

The cover is classic, and the music's great, too. I like most of the ...Y La Pesada records I've managed to hear. I think my favorite is the Jorge Pinchevsky one, with lots of violin and retarded psych fx.
