The reviewer probably wasn't alive two decades ago.

Holy shit, that Teasers review is amazing in its pretension and wrongness. My "favorite" parts:

"After interrogating that line for some time, it's unclear whether it's supposed to be entertaining. If so, is it intended to be entertaining on its own, or making fun of people/bands that think that line is entertaining?"

"Then I realized I was so bored that I'd started to mentally efface my faculty for listening."

Scott, when should stores have theirs? I'm sure Permanent will send out an email. Dude said he's way into Z-Gun and S-S, and rightly so.

saw grifters, strap fieldhands, and gbv in memphis and it was hotttt!

I saw that same tour in North Carolina. Grifters were disappointing. They started to suck right around then.

I'd venture that very few bands have fallen off quite as hard as the Grifters did. They were fucking incredible up through "Crappin You Negative," but after they signed to Sub Pop............I'd rather pretend those records never happened.

Soriano nailed it. This kid is fronting and relying heavily on what little he knows about heavy psych (apparently just the SF Nuggets disc!) and what he learned from skimming the Rallizes chapters in Japrock to try to come off authoritative. It would have been a much better review if he had just written what HE THOUGHT of the sounds instead of trying to make comparisons where he doesn't have the knowledge to do so.

Not to brag (heh), but to whomever brought up Siltbreeze, I actually have some Strapping Fieldhands and Dead C. vinyl I bought when it was new.

But, that just means I'm old.

Maybe Mac was weirded out that your name was Laura B.

If anyone wants to hear the LEGENDARY "Natty Bohemian," there's an mp3 up here. It's track 13.

Wow, I had no idea Friction Media had a following out there! "Natty Bohemian" was the big hit for Joby's, but the first 7" has some good moments. "Slag Off" was kinda catchy. The best thing F. Media put out was the pretentiously named, but rock solid "Cognitive Mapping" comp. Another good F. Media band is Tractor Hips, depending on your tolerance for math rock.

Friction Media didn't put it out, but the first Rebar single is great, pick that up if you see it, kids. Sounded kinda like the Grifters.

But, yeah, I remember Rrope and Bill Ding, too.....can't recall exactly what Bill Ding sounded like, but I remember the name. Got 'em confused with Bill Direen/Bilders.

"Indoor Living" has some pretty uptempo stuff, definitely not as "mature" (read: overproduced) as some of their other late period stuff. I really think it's a good record, although there are a couple of duds, but just two or three.

Their first record is pretty lame in retrospect, but "No Pocky" through "Foolish" are all good records. And "Tossing Seeds" (first singles comp).

Ugh. "Here's Where the Strings Come In" is one of the worst Superchunk records. It's all about the early singles, "No Pocky," "On the Mouth," and their best late period record "Indoor Living," which is about 85% awesome.

DJ Rick, I cannot believe you mentioned Joby's Opinion!!! I'm friends with those dudes, that's so crazy that someone in Cali is bringing up their name in 2008. Nutso. Chris Palmatier from that band has actually lived in San Francisco for the past decade. Records as Brian and Chris now. Very different stuff, though.

I got a copy of that Sadistic Mika Band recently for like 8 bucks, regular used CD price. It is out of print, though.

A paraprofessional is someone who does office work, but doesn't have a professional degree. It's most commonly used by librarians who need to feel superior to the people they work with. I worked as paraprofessional in a library for a few years, and I wish a couple of the people who worked there showed me their tits at my going away party!

That 10" is legendary. I think Holy Mountain is doing a singles comp, too--a separate release from the bonus disc.

So, Trey and Laura, are y'all librarians or "paraprofessionals"? I'm just wondering because I'm also a librarian. Anyway, no music in my office except when the annoying administrative assistant sings or hums to himself (which happens a lot, actually) or tries to play some lame classical station really softly on his computer.

I also abhor the "Are you into music?" and "What kind of music do you listen to?" questions.

Sorry for talking about librarians on here, I hate librarians who like to talk about librarians.
