Yeah. They should be doing a whole US tour. Alas.
However, Steve is actually a great solo performer. You should go see him.

Protest at Entercom Thursday, August 25 noon to 1pm

I've been pushing for this since day one. Finally the rest of the station is behind it.

Save KUSF will be protesting outside of the Entercom radio studios, 201 3rd St, SF (at Howard St) on Thursday, August 25 noon to 1pm. Take a long lunch and join us.

Entercom is the owner of KDFC the station wanting to take over KUSF's signal at 90.3fm. In fact, they are already broadcasting on 90.3fm through a deal they made with USF. The programming you hear on 90.3fm is coming from this commercial radio studio. Entercom is currently the only winner in this debacle.

Radio industry rumors allege that the FCC is planning on making the test case of the KUSF sale. It would be nice to see that happen.

All the legal shenanigans are getting pretty interesting:

My fave: Inside Radio reports "Broadcast attorney John Garziglia calls the FCC?s review of San Francisco?s KUSF sale 'quite extraordinary, both in its breadth of inquiry and in its specificity.'" and "...the FCC may be making KUSF a test case that could signal a change of policy."
Take that USF!

Time for a KUSF update?

Hopefully you know the sale of the station still has not been approved. We just passed six months since the shutdown.

When I last reported the FCC had started an investigation requesting all of the documents regarding the sale from the folks at USF starting on June 1, 2010.

This week in order "to further ease the burden on the FCC" USF asked that the FCC revise request #9 to "Provide a copy of all Documents from June 1, 2010, to the present, to or from Rev. Stephen Privett, Mr. Charles Cross, Donna Davis, Esq., and/or Mr. Stephen Runyon concerning the proposed sale of the Station, the PSOA or CPRN." Of course, this is probably the good stuff that shows all the shady dealings that happened. While I would assume this would be a red flag to the FCC that USF, CPRN and Entercom have something to hide, apparently it was not. The FCC today granted USF's request. Thanks for looking out for the public once again FCC. USF has until Monday 8/1 to supply the rest of the documents.

So...

Let's take this to the source. Next Thursday, August 4th, at noon Save KUSF will protest at the local headquarters of Entercom.

201 Third St, Suite 1200
San Francisco, CA 94103

Right now Entercom are the only ones winning in this deal which kicked KUSF off the air.

Entercom are a corporate media conglomerate who own over 100 stations in the US and in many ways they helped orchestrate this deal. They wanted to rid their hands of the classical station KDFC which was very popular yet Entercom could not easily sell advertising for it. Instead they wanted to move their bigger money maker, the easily marketable, generic classic rock station from San Jose to the San Francisco market. It's believed they helped front money & have partnered with CPRN so they could quietly dump off KDFC and magically turn it into a non-commercial station overnight. In fact right now the music coming out on 90.3fm is being broadcast out of the offices of Entercom. You have to wonder who is paying the salaries for the KDFC staff since the station is not legally allowed to fundraise until the sale goes through.

Come down to the protest Thursday at noon. We will most likely have a punk legend who now lives in SF performing a few songs at the protest. I'll let you know who it is as soon as he has confirmed. It will be cool.
