A long awaited KUSF Fight update!
A member of a semi-popular Oakland garage band has been telling people the KUSF sale is a done deal. Well, I want to let everyone know it isn't. In fact every day it looks a bit better. One of our commercial radio insiders/advisors who at the beginning said we "don't have a snowball's chance in hell" of reversing this decision, but we have to fight it anyway, told me on Monday he thinks we have a 50/50 chance of getting the FCC to go our way. !!! Our goal is to get a public hearing on the sale so we can get the whole dirty deal out to the public. I figured we were up to 5% chance. Although I am still skeptical since that FCC member Meredith Attwell Baker just took a job at Comcast after approving the sale of NBC to Comcast. Interesting. And we are a bunch of unpaid volunteers fighting three big corporations. I know the FCC likes corporations. But hey...
Anyway a lot of the stuff is going on behind the scenes (negotiations, meetings, lawyers, etc.) and is kind of boring, BUT we are still broadcasting through WFMU's internet stream while all this stuff goes on.
We are doing three Fridays of live broadcasts on WFMU, 91.1 fm in New Jersey from the KUSF In Exile studios. It started last week and we continue tomorrow, May 13 and next week, May 20, noon to 3 pm PST (3 to 6 pm EST). I will be on tomorrow with other KUSF DJs Andre and Fari plus Billy Jam of WFMU (x-KUSF DJ, it's his WFMU show at that time) and other guests Tony B of the Hemlock Tavern and Clam Lynch of Bablyon Burning.
Then also next week I am interviewing the infamous City Rocker Conan on my regular show Tuesday, May 17 noon to 3pm PST and feedtime will be guest DJing on Friday, May 20, 3 to 4 pm PST.
Lots of ways to listen:
