Mammothcaverecording.com

MCR 011 - Krang "Speed of Tent" 7" Single (300 press) - We think that this is the best 7" we've released so far. Two heavy-psych brain-warpers, think Wooden Shjips if all they ever listened to was Black Sabbath and smoked way more dank. Heaviest band in Edmonton! Blaze a J and listen to "Spirit Animal" http://mammothcave.tumblr.com/post/3185416302/stream-krang-spirit-animal-mcr-011-krang-a

MCR 012 - Sharp Ends "Broadview Pressure Test" 7" EP (300 press WHITE VINYL) - Reissue of Sharp Ends self-released 4-song 7" EP that came out in an edition of 100 and sold out in 24 hours back in December 2009, and in my humble opinion, the best Sharp Ends best songs from when they were fresh and hungry. Deadly serious here, we've been itching to reissue this since it was released. Listen to "Broadview Pressure Test"  http://mammothcave.tumblr.com/post/3209022744/stream-sharp-ends-broadview-pressure-test

MCR 013 - Bloodstains Across British Columbia 7" Compilation (300 press) - 13 of Vancouver's finest bands - Nu Sensae, White Lung, Role Mach, Ahna, Shearing Pinx, Shipyards, Needles//Pins, B-Lines, Manic Attracts, Timecopz, Indian Wars, Yung Mums, Student/Teacher. Each band was asked to contribute a 1 minute song about their home province, and what we got blew us away!! Listen to the WHOLE THING here: http://mammothcave.tumblr.com/post/2941751761/out-on-march-01-2011-bloodstains-across-british Also, here is an article on our Bloodstains Across Canada endeavour (We're doing one of these for every Province):  http://exclaim.ca/News/mammoth_cave_recording_co_takes_bloodstains_series_across_canadas_provinces_with_white_lung_nu_sensae_famines_shadowy_men_from_shadowy_planet

MCR 014 - Topless Mongos "Hey My My" 7" Single (300 press) - Interviewed/reviewed in the latest Mongrel Zine "These guys are weirdos and I like it" - they are also the biggest dicks ever and alienate/piss off audiences every time they play. There is a song on this record about the HUMAN CENTIPEDE!! Look for them on a two-month CROSS CANADA/USA TOUR that starts TODAY!!  http://mammothcave.tumblr.com/post/3185967474/stream-topless-mongos-hey-my-my-mcr014

STILL AVAILABLE
MCR 006 - The Moby Dicks - Ballad of the Red Dog 7" EP (500 Press, less than 20 left!) - Featuring 1/2 of Myelin Sheaths, stripped down garage punk. Look for 2nd 7" coming NEXT MONTH on Southpaw Records!! No repress.
"The Moby Dicks stand Mosrites and leather jackets above the scores of uninspired, talentless Queers copycats out there today." - Josh Benke, Razorcake

MCR 007 - Sharp Ends - Crack Trap 7" (500 press, less than 10 left) - Second of their three 7"s, featuring "Loaded Hearts" which is my 2nd favourite Sharp Ends song! No repress.
"Loaded Hearts will rip you into Lego-chunks of teenage angst within seconds of launching; it?s classic DIY jangle with way too much attitude tastefully balanced by top-notch laxidasical chanting and relentless guitar shreddery." - Aaron Levin, Weird Canada

MCR 008 - The Famines - Syllables 7" (500 press, less than 30 left) - Evan's favourite release we've done is Krang / My favourite is the Famines "Syllables", sonic equivalent to a punch in the gunny-sac.
"Great hearing a band that has the parts and chops to rival most in the two-man (advantage) band format, is able to flex hard on their chops, and still finds a way to sound and play differently than most bands trying to figure it all out." - Doug Mosurock, Still Single

COMING SOON!
MCR 015 - Shrapnelles LP (look for a new HoZac 7" in April/May!)
MCR 016 - Bloodstains Across Ontario 7" (w/ Young Guv, Tonetta, White Wires, Peach Kelly Pop, Tropics, Little Girls, Mothers Children, First Base and an UNRELEASED SHADOWY MEN ON A SHADOWY PLANET song!)

I know this forum is usually for records, but we made shirts for our LP release party and fall tours, and have some of each size/colour left. We can do bigger sizes (there is a "custom" link on the page), just let us know the size/colour and we'll get you covered!

http://mammothcave.bigcartel.com/

We have a limited number of everything, and are trying to make room for our next batch of releases which should be out in the next few weeks!

Left in stock:

11 x Sharp Ends "Crack Trap" 7" left! Get on that now if you want one. Sharp Ends, of course, had a 7" on HoZac and have a new LP out THIS WEEK on Kill Shaman

23 x Moby Dicks "Red Dog" 7" left! Moby Dicks are 1/2 of Myelin Sheaths, if you didn't know. Myelin Sheaths LP out this week on Southpaw, and Southpaw is also releasing a brand new Moby Dicks 7" in the coming weeks!!

10 x Famines 7" discography sets! The Famines are on of our favourite bands, and we have assembled 10 sets of their entire discography on sale for $15! Includes their 2x7", "Free Love is a Sales Technique" 7" as well as the Mammoth Cave released "Syllables" 7" that we love and are surprised didn't blow up! Shit is so fucking good!!

Coming Soon:
Sharp Ends - S/T 4 song EP Repress - Sharp Ends self-released this amazing single in a stupidly low pressing size of 100 copies, and those sold out in one day. 300 more are being repressed, brand new sleeve, colour vinyl. I honestly think that this is their best release out of anything they've done, and we just couldn't let this one die via overpriced eBay flipping.
Krang - Speed of Tent 7"  - Long delayed, but finally in the finishing stages. Suuuuper heavy psych, like Wooden Shjips on steroids. Love!
Bloodstains Across BC Compilation 7" - follow up to the sold-out Bloodstains AB 7", second in the series (gonna do all the provinces). Featuring some heavy hitters like Nu Sensae, White Lung, Dead Ghosts, Shearing Pinx, Manic Attracts, Timecopz, Indian Wars... get ready, this 7" is gonna blow minds!!

MCR 008 - The Famines 7?
A: Syllables
B: Got Lies If You Want Them

http://www.thefamines.ca/

The Famines are a two-piece from Edmonton,  Alberta and they are easily the best  live band in the province ? I?ve seen them whip audiences into bloodthirsty, near-riotous frenzy on more than one occasion. For those of you who have borne witness to the Famines ferocious live show, this recording you?ve been waiting for.

The Syllables 7? is their third 7? (the first being their self-released double 7? released in 2008, their second being the ?Free Love is a Sales Technique? out on Reluctant Records last year. The single was recorded on a cold February Monday in the Mammoth Cave Recording Co. studio  and the songs were knocked out in a few hours.

1st pressing: 500 Black

The Famines are on tour right now across Canada, go see them.

MCR 009 ? Radians 7?
A: Iran
B: Bad People

http://www.myspace.com/radiansmusic

First 7? in a series of 5 planned limited singles  with artwork by Seattle?s C.M. Ruiz, Radians features members of Myelin Sheaths (HoZac/Bachelor) and Fist City (LP on Deadbeat soon). Weird Canada calls it ?granular, anthemic pop? which is probably pretty much exactly what this single sounds like.  Take a chance.

1st (and only) pressing of 200 Black (Only 95 left after Wyrd Alberta Travelling Fest)

7? Release Party: May 28 @ Broken City (Calgary)

MCR 010 ? Bloodstains Across Alberta 7?
Featuring: Topless Mongos, Myelin Sheaths, Tension Slips, The Moby Dicks,  Grown-Ups, Famines, Fist City, Radians, The Throwaways, Outdoor Miners

We asked 10 of our favourite Alberta bands to write a 1 minute song loosely about their home province and two months later we got this. I daresay it came out way better than we anticipated. Seriously, this record rules pretty hard, with every band turning in short blasts of amazing.  In fact, even though we made this single for the Wyrd Alberta Travelling Festival, we have plans to do a BC edition (w/ Indian Wars, Dead Ghosts, Student Teacher, B-Lines? lots more) and then maybe more after that.

1st pressing 300 Black (Only 83 left after Wyrd Alberta travelling Fest).

Still Available:

MCR 007 - Sharp Ends 7"
A: Crack Trap
B: Loaded Hearts

Comes with Download Code!
http://www.myspace.com/sharpends

Fresh off their debut on Chicago's Hozac Records, Sharp Ends deliver their 2nd of three 7"s coming out in Fall 2009 (with each single decreasing in availability). For this one, Sharp Ends combine their early Joy Division vibe with more of a pop sensibility on the b-side, Loaded Hearts, though the killer here is Crack Trap, which has one of the catchiest guitar hooks we've heard in some time. Essential.

MCR 006 - The Moby Dicks 7"
A1: Ballad of The Red Dog
A2: Fuck Off Baby
B1: Mike Molloy
B2: Ogo Pogo (Hubble Bubble Cover... kind of)

Comes with Download Code
http://www.myspace.com/themobydicksandstuff%E2%80%9D

The Moby Dicks are a three piece (bass/guitar and two super shitty tom drums duct taped together) featuring two current members of Myelin Sheaths (HoZac/Bachelor).
I wont hesitate to say that this 7" has it all - songs about a rad French-Canadian Hot Dog joint in the heart of the Canadian Bible-Belt ("Ballad of the Red Dog"), girls ("Fuck Off Baby" and "Mike Molloy" - a song named after the proprietor of the local record shoppe, but actually about girls) and a mythical Lake Monster ("Ogo Pogo", which is actually a cover of Hubble Bubble's "Pogo Pogo" with the words changed around). Fans of Romance Novels, Nobunny, Hunx, Personal and the Pizzas will love this.

One copy:
$6.75 Canada Post-Paid
$7.50 U.S. Post Paid
$9.75 WORLD Post-Paid

Two copies (of either 7")
$12.75 Canada Post-Paid
$14.25 U.S. Post-Paid
$18.00 WORLD Post-Paid
26
I've got the last remaining copies of the Mammoth Cave Sharp Ends 7" and the Moby Dicks 7"s.

Paypal $10 (ppd) to paul.lawton@uleth.ca for both. First 10 orders will receive the last 10 Myelin Sheaths s/t CDR.

We need to make room because we have three new singles coming out at the end of this month

1) Bloodstains Across Alberta 7" Comp :: 300 Copies :: 10 bands doing 1 minute-ish blasts  :: Myelin Sheaths, The Moby Dicks, Fist City, The Famines, Grown-Ups, Topless Mongos, Radians, Tension Slips, The Throwaways, Outdoor Miners

2) Radians "Iran" 7" (ex-Endangered Ape) :: 200 copies :: Art by C.M. Ruiz!!

3) The Famines "Syllables" 7"  :: 500 copies :: A ripper, by far their best yet!

Praise for the Sharp Ends "Crack Trap" 7" (Look for full Length on Kill Shaman this summer!!)

With ethereal vocals warbling from a treble-y melody to a guttural and bass-y speak-sing hybrid, guitars reverbed to just this side of spooky, harmonics pinched until they're just about to feedback and a relentless rhythm section, "Crack Trap," the A-side of Calgary's Sharp Ends' new seven-inch, is the soundtrack to a night on amphetamines, the queasy and uneasy rollicking mimics the head and stomach's response, while the song's pace resembles your oppressive heartbeat. The B-side, a more straight-ahead punk number, doesn't fare as well?though it contains a pretty epic solo to close it out?and sometimes the hat tips to Joy Division come uncomfortably to the forefront, but fuck it: this band is awesome. 4/5 (Brian Birtles // Vue Weekly, October 29, 2009)

___________

Sharp Ends were the source of rampant rumours in our village square during 2009?s adjective-fest (read: Sled Island) and they?ve quickly become the talk of North America?s underground after a debut single on Chicago?s bozak-repellant HoZac Records. With a new single on Lethbridge?s beautifully curated Mammoth Cave Recordings, Sharp Ends briefly depart from the rolling bass, bludgeonly drums, and red-line vocals to surprise us with one of the best B-sides left of Winnipeg (I?ve always wanted to say that!). Loaded Hearts will rip you into Lego?-chunks of teenage angst within seconds of launching; it?s classic DIY jangle with way too much attitude tastefully balanced by top-notch laxidasical chanting and relentless guitar shreddery. This isn?t to say Crack Trap doesn?t also deliver, just in an entirely different way; Crack Trap tickles the inner post-punk / college-radio basement-nerd inside of every loser going Dutch and buying $100 7″s on the sly (myself (proudly) included). There are many treasures inside the Mammoth Cave. (Aaron Levin // Weird Canada, November 10, 2009)

___________

Praise for the Moby Dicks "Ballad of the Red Dog" 7"

Three piece punk outfit from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada who make the deceptively difficult task of writing catchy, boneheaded, and, most importantly, memorable pop punk tunes look easy. Yes, I said ?pop punk? without a hint of the pejorative. ?Ballad of the Red Dog? is a bouncy ode to the Red Dog Diner, where the hot dogs are cheap, the owners are FrenchFrogs, and the late night crowd is wasted. ?Fuck off Baby? ends almost before it begins, delivering a concise, heartfelt message in a burst of Spits-like fury. The b-side is equally strong, with ?Mike Molloy? occupying the same sonic space as the White Wires, and ?Ogo Pogo? satisfying the perfunctory nod to the Ramones to which bands of this ilk often feel obliged. The Moby Dicks stand Mosrites and leather jackets above the scores of uninspired, talentless Queers copycats out there today. ?Josh Benke // Razorcake

__________

Young, loud and snotty punk rock that should get fans of the Oblivians and early Dirtbombs all jazzed. They?ve got a 30-second blaster called ?Fuck Off Baby,? what more do ya want? 8/10 (Johnson Cummins // Montreal Mirror, October 29 2009)
_____

Lethbridge lo-fi punk trio The Moby Dicks, which contain members of both Myelin Sheaths and Endangered Ape,  have loaded their latest 7" release with a wealth of local flavour. Both lead-off tracks for each side,  "Ballad of the Red Dog" and "Mike Molloy" have roots in their own windy city. The Red Dog Diner, well known by those familiar with the city, is a francophone haunt that serves hot dogs to many an intoxicated patron. While the song does not appear to have anything to do with him at all, Mike Molloy is owner of a local record store that is frequented by many involved in Mammoth Cave Recordings. Toss in a quick track making no bones about feelings for a girl and a Hubble Bubble cover song with their lyrics replaced  with those about a mythical Canadian lake dweller, and you have a lo-fi, DIY punk romp that does what lo-fi, DIY punk romp should do: it buzzes, stomps, shouts and leaves you wishing there were more. (Matt Sheardown // Beatroute, November 2009)

_________

Something special is happening in Lethbridge, AB. The college town has never been known for creative output, but a select group are changing that. From the ashes of the band Endangered Ape comes Myelin Sheaths, a science themed garage quartet, and Moby Dicks, who play minimalist, soulful power-pop. "Ballad of the Red Dog" is the A-side from their brand new seven-inch, released on their own Mammoth Cave Recordings. The song is an ode to the Red Dog Diner, a Lethbridge eatery that, when open, boasts cheap hot dogs and 14 flavours of poutine. The song is simple in structure, but endlessly catchy. Get the seven-inch, and put this on a mixtape between King Khan & BBQ Show and Nobunny. (Josiah Hughes // Exclaim, November, 2009)

_______

Another brilliance piece of post-existence garage-punk from Lethbridge, Alberta, released on the soon-to-be-legendary Mammoth Cave Recordings. label. The Moby Dicks? debute CDR is liquor-store garage-punk-revival filtered through ashtrays and pissy stair-wells; it?s puzzling, adventurous and full of Paul?s weirdly flavored recording MSG. Who is Paul? On top of being the leading member of now-defunct Endangered Ape and producer for about-to-blow-up The Myelin Sheaths, Paul is the cold glue keeping Lethbridge a veritable force in Canada?s what-the-hell-is-this? landscape. Paul?s recording techniques are paramount in separating The Moby Dicks? debut form derivative garage-punk. Through the Mammoth Cave studios the songs transcend their late-60s roots and firmly entrench themselves in the whirlwind of hell that is the modern Terminal Boredom palette. Buy the CDR before it?s extinct. (Aaron Levin // Weird Canada, August 2009)

Sharp Ends - New 4 song 7" EP (100 Press, Self Released) / Mammoth Cave Sale

A1: Broadview Pressure Test
A2: Panic Button
B1: Vacant City
B2: Can't Say No
http://www.myspace.com/sharpends

So what if your favourite band decided to collect four of their first (and among the best) songs onto one 7" EP, and then only make 100 of them? Palms get sweaty thinking about not having one of these records...

"Vacant City" and "Broadview Pressure Test" are two of the most essential Sharp Ends songs. I saw them 20+ times in 2009 (two tours, many one-offs), and I STILL get chills from the opening guitar riff of Broadview Pressure Test (or, for those of you who don't know the title - its the one where Zaijko screams "Oh yeaaaaaah - WORLD WAR SIX!" in the chorus). Sogood, and probably the best of the three 7"s they've put out this year.

100 copies, we have 40 of them (the band kept 60 for shows and stuff), mammothcave.bigcartel.com will be the only place you can buy the record online (and I'm putting 10 aside for local stores and the distro Table). These will go fast.
