The Famines are our favourite band. They are a band that we gladly wave the banner for, a band we would take a bullet for, and they require your attention. Personally, I?ve only ever been brought to tears by a live show once, and it was for The Famines who were closing out Wyrd Fest II, in a performance that was both visceral and unexpectedly sweet. As Bruno Latour would say, we have been enrolled.

The Complete Collected Singles is a small encyclopedia of minimalist-maximalist modernist noise garage songs from 2008 to present. These songs range from sly to monstrous, teething to biting. Indeed, The Famines are a band working in extremes, pushing two-piece dynamics simultaneously toward new highs and new lows.

In a culture of disposability, The Famines offer something worth holding on to. When you find yourself weeding out your record collection in five years, you will hold onto The Complete Collected Singles. Famines guitarist/vocalist Raymond Biesinger?s sleeve visuals give these things a lasting appeal.

The first pressing of The Complete Collected Singles is 500. The first 100 pre-orders come with a limited, colour-reversed poster of the sleeve art, and look absolutely amazing. The LP sounds great as well - the re-mastering and the long-play format will keep this on your turntable for years to come.

The LP will be available on 11/11/11

Jesus man,
That Crash Kills Five 7" ALONE is enough to get excited about. Crazy! (Mammoth Cave are busy prepping the Shadowy Men "Savvy Show Stoppers" reissue coming in the next few months, Don Pyle is one of my all time favourite people!).
37
I'm fully aware that sending stuff internationally is expensive, but shipping a 7" to Canada is like $4... (I ship stuff from USA to Canada all the time).
38
Says shipping to Canada is $15 for 1x7" (Really want that Von Zippers 7").
Ya?

MCR 019 - Lantern's debut 7?!!
A: I Don?t Know (//Here is the brand new VIDEO//)
B: Out of Our Heads
300 Copies / Black Vinyl / Large Hole / Digital Download
Art: Liza Czech
Following up to killer releases on Night People and Electric Voice, this is Lantern's debut 7" single.  Zachary Fairbrother and Emily Robb were also in Omon Ra II, a band we loved a great deal (the Oman Ra II / Dirty Beaches split cassette will never leave my van). Outside of the killer artwork by Montreal artist Liza Czech, the debut single from Lantern will knock you straight onto your ass with it's raw, blown out rock and roll chaos. "I Don't Know" sounds like a 'roided out Bo Diddley. This song was lifted from the Night People cassette, it was just too good to linger in one format. New to this single is "Out of Our Heads" which sounds like it could have been included in the Stooges Rough Power bootleg, or a lost Dead Boys gem. This single is an instant classic, you absolutely need this in your 7" collection. See for yourself why Vice called them the "best band in Philadelphia" (haha).

MCR 020 - B.A. Johnston & The Moby Dicks 7? EP
A1: Robot World
A2: You?re Gonna Miss Me When the Zombies Come
A3: McDonald?s Coupon Day
300 Copes / Black Vinyl / Large Hole / Digital Download
Art: Paul Hammond

We have been huge fans of B.A. Johnston for some time now, and couldn't be more excited to release this 7". B.A. Johnston and the Moby Dicks is the 2nd in a series of 7" records that has B.A. Johnston teaming up with his favourite Canadian bands (The Magnificent 7s backed B.A. in the first instalment). The Moby Dicks re-create three of their favourite B.A. Johnston songs, "Robot World" (off B.A.'s classic album "Call Me When Old and Fat is the New Young and Sexy"), "You're Gonna Miss Me When the Zombies Come" (off "Stairway to Hamilton"), as well as the previously unreleased "McDonald's Coupon Day." Total love-in.

MCR 021 - The Mandates debut 7"!!
A: Take You To the Dance
B1: Photo in my Wallet
B2: So Much for Saturday Night
150 Copies / Black Vinyl / Small Hole / Digital Download

How many good bands does Calgary, AB need to have before people start taking it seriously as the current hotbed of Canadian Rock 'N Roll? The Mandates are just the latest example of how good things are getting. Straight-up, no nonsense powerpop with lots of thrills and no frills. "Photo in my Wallet" alone will make this 7" a hot commodity in the very near future, because at 150 copies, these aren't gonna last long. Seriously good stuff here.

We sold out of our remaining copies of the Moby Dicks / Needles//Pins tour split really fast yesterday, but a few can be found here http://scumbuzzrecords.bigcartel.com/

That was just a little joke about a Montreal showcase hosted by certain countrymen and friends of ours.  Only 4 of the 10 bands were properly Montreal bands.

What PQ bands should you get?  Just don't get a bunch of Vancouverites who've been living here for a year.  Actually, I don't really care about that shit.  Just don't get a bunch of Vancouverites who've been living here for a year and play laptops.

Actually, just give every track to the Omegas.

Haha... ya. I hear you. For the record I had no role in that.
42

Will there be PQ bands on the PQ Platter?

But of course! Trying to avoid another "Bloodstains BC" where all the bands are from Vancouver (Actually thinking of doing a Vancouver Island edition now that the place is crawling with awesome bands - Babysitter, Open Relationship, Bash Bros...)

What PQ bands should we get???
