Non-Music Shit / Case Logic
« on: September 27, 2010, 08:55:00 AM »
I'm thinking about finally taking all of my CDs and storing them in one those of Case Logic  joints. I've probably got about 500 or so (I'm guessing) and I can no longer justify the space they take up. There has to be a downside though. Has anyone made this switch and then regretted it?

The only negative I can think of offhand, is that the ones I don't sell now won't be saleable down the road once out of the jewel case.

I've got about one full day at the beginning and end of a longer trip.

Suggestions (besides the Guggenheim)?

Anyone know anything about the new record store opening up in Carroll Gardens in Brooklyn? Black Gold it's called. Opening Saturday.

Their website doesn't say much at all.

I'm listening to it...

It's incredible...

I'll be surprised if there isn't Total Termbo Consensus on this once it's heard far and wide.

Visiting for the very first time. My brother lives there but he's a newbie too.

I'd even settle for a quality full-length comp of the early action, like the SFTRI comp.

Cities / Favorite Brooklyn Diners
« on: January 22, 2010, 11:23:49 AM »
So hit or miss...

The closest diner to my apartment in Gowonus is New College Restaurant. It's... not good. Daisy's, about 10 blocks away, is solid though. The Donut House in Carroll Gardens is decent too.

Which diners do you like, which do you hate?

Used Records For Sale/Auctions/Wantlists / Wanted: Joh Cale -- Fear LP
« on: January 07, 2010, 09:33:50 AM »
Maybe this is easier to find than I realize, but I can never find it in stores, and the online for-sales always seem iffy.

Any help?

Music Shit / $$$ CDs v. LPs $$$
« on: October 09, 2009, 06:11:45 AM »
I could probably answer this myself if I thought about it, but when and why did LPs become more expensive than CDs? I remember back in the day when I first started collecting vinyl, I thought it such a bonus that in addition to aligning myself with the superior format of vinyl, I was also saving money. I buy new albums on vinyl almost exclusively at this point, but they're so fucking expensive now. The new Thomas Function is $15  on LP ($13 on CD) via the Fat Possum website. And that's the one example that springs to mind. I'm curious what folks like Soriano and other label people make of this.

Think of me as an clueless consumer who's not pissed off by the change, just wondering what happened. Is it just that CDs are becoming increasingly worthless or are the raw materials more expensive?

Pop Punk / Avail?
« on: October 08, 2009, 11:49:33 AM »
What's the ruling from the pop punk board?

I don't know anything about them, but I have a friend with generally good taste in punk/hardcore/heavy/loud who swears by them.

Pop Punk / Famous Punk Bands No one Likes
« on: June 26, 2009, 01:15:25 PM »
Does anyone really, truly like, for example, T.S.O.L.? I have to assume no. Why are they so well known(at least in the world of punk)? How did they get famous?

What are some others?

Upcoming Shows/Tours/Events / Suttree NYC shows in July
« on: June 01, 2009, 06:26:53 AM »
Suttree are heading back to New York this summer. I'm helping to get shows for them on the 17th and 18th of July. They were fantastic last year at Don Pedros . Hit me up off the board if you know of anything that might be a good fit. They're total dudes and will play anywhere.

Where the fuck is my Pagans "Dead End America" seven inch? I lost it, years ago, but I suspect a late night DJ theft.

That one still really kills me.
