any opinions on the following?

Alex Chilton - Alex Chilton (1992)
Alex Chilton - Black List (1990)
Alex Chilton - Clich?s + Loose Shoes and Tight Pussy (2004)

A lot of the 1990s--2000s stuff veers into standards and more traditional pop fare (lots of covers). It's still funneled though Chilton's own weird prism, but the stuff is ultimately pretty clean and straightforward. He seems to be enjoying himself by doing exactly he wants, as opposed to deliberately trying to annoy people by doing exactly what he wants.

The latter approach yields more interesting records for my money, even though Loose Shoes, Blacklist, Cliches etc. are decent enough for a few bucks.

Bach's Bottom, 1970, though, essential.

Supposedly those tracks will be on that enormous Archives box set Neil's been compiling for like 10 years.

Steelers fans even know that during WWII they combined teams w/ their SB opponents (based in Chicago then) and for that one season were known as the Chi-Pitt Carpets. Which was a good name since they went 0-10. I'm a fan; I know this history.

And also during the 1943 season as the PittsPhil Steagles. But I only learned that during a winning season so maybe it doesn't count.

Like the Steelers the fans are as fair as the weather

That's complete bullshit.

Most Steelers fans are knowledgable die-hards who tough it out every week regardless of the outcome.

Sure, there are a whole bunch of knucklehead jag-offs out there who put on a jersey every Sunday just to have an excuse to get wasted, and ultimately have no idea what's going on. You'll have those types throughout every sport in every city though.

There are an even greater number of Steelers fans who have stuck with that team for decades waiting for them to be good again. I suffered through Mark Malone, Bubby Brister, and Cliff Stout, to name but a few from the dark days. And now I'm proud as hell that they stomped the Ravens and are headed to Tampa.

Here we go Steelers!

I do agree, though, that the NFL coddles it's QBs too much. And it's hurt the game in general.

Liking the Strange Boys LP a lot. The less it reminds me of the Black Lips the better it is. Nothing again BLs either, just makes for a better listen.

And true to pop form, dude's now a fat miserable drunk.

I read an interview with him in Tap-Op a few years back. He looked pretty fat in the picture, but he didn't seem especially miserable or drunk. He has a home studio and records people I guess.

Fuck it... Gotta go with NA at Southpaw in Brooklyn 4/23.

Clockcleaner opened and played the riff to "Ready to Fight" for a half an hour. NA played it for about a minute-thirty. It's much better that way.

Hank IV were great at the Charleston on 11/12 too.

Music Shit / Re: The Muslims change name to The Soft Pack
« on: December 04, 2008, 01:52:27 PM »
from their website:

WHY WE CHANGED THE NAME OF OUR BAND--- Because we hated it. When we started the band the name meant absolutely nothing to us and grew to become something we couldn't stand. We were disgusted with and exhausted by all of the ignorant, often racist, bullshit that came out of people's mouths during shows/ interviews/ conversations. Anyhooo, we have been working hard on new songs that we are super excited about. We will be playing these songs live during the NEW TOUR DATES THAT WILL BE ANNOUNCED VERY SOOOOON! Oh, and I guess there was some confusion as to whether we are "fucking gay, corporate sellouts." Don't fret! We are still broke as ever and paying for the band out of our own pockets. Just like back in the day! See you out there buds. The Soft Pack

I'm always a fan of playing long songs on the jukebox (you get your money's worth!),

low spark of high heeled boys
in the court of the crimson king

and on my way out the door...

number nine, number nine, number nine

a dollars worth of revolution number 9.  kind of a parting fuck to the other patrons.  ;)

Metal Machine Music and Yoo Doo Right. The Turkey's Nest, Brooklyn. You get the place pretty much to yourself after that double blast.

I am going to this show.
Sadly, I am not.  My son is having his sleep over birthday party and I can't get away w/out being totally bogus.

didn't that happen last year too when the cheater slicks played DP's?

give those kids enough pop and a few guitars and it probably won't be too different than the actual show itself.

For a second I forgot who Sarah Palin was out of context and I thought this was a "Blank Dogs + Gary War = Roman Soldiers" type of thread.

now there's a debate...
