Goner, all the way. One cool thing I noticed was how aware of Gonerfest the whole city of Memphis was and how much they seemed to be down with it. Speaks to how great that whole crew is. I mean, Guitar Wolf played in a gazebo.

I loved Chaos, too, but band's that have names written in fonts that I can't decipher aren't totally my bag (as much as other stuff) and Chaos is heavy on that action.

Jim Goad contributing to the Thought Catalog.

Or in the many forms of the existentialist motivational speech: "I'm crippled by self-doubt and unreasonable expectations! I'd consign myself to the compost heap of life but luckily I've reconciled my fear of a cold, impersonal universe with the belief that empathy/recycling/bike maintenance/fake buddhism redeems flawed humanity because ______." (I find it doubly ironic that the person ingenuous enough to supplement // and ______ with "the Holy Spirit" and "grace" is held up for ridicule as an incompetent by the person who decides to fill those gaps with "helmet laws" and "just think about it!")

Nice one.

I buy a lot of Pittsburgh stuff that I might not normally buy simply because it's my hometown. That said, I end up liking and keeping almost all of it.

I picked up Pagans and O Level at Academy 18th Street last night. Still plenty of stuff left for those interested.

Non-Music Shit / Re: PRO / CON - RECORD STORE DAY
« on: April 18, 2014, 07:32:53 AM »
The only thing worse than people getting excited about a old Nirvana recording getting a new pressing on Vomit Green vinyl are the people who get upset about it
and the infamous record flippers.

I would grip and flip a record like that in a heartbeat if I had the chance, and I think I'm a pretty decent guy.

My take on RSD is if it helps keep the stores in business throughout the year (a Christmas in July, but in April, sort of thing) then that's great, and I fully support it. And I don't have a huge problem with it one way or the other.

For me personally, though, as a medium-level collector, I really, really, really want those DEVO and O Level records, but the idea of getting up early and waiting in line with a bunch of brunch rockers only to be told that they're sold out, is just not my bag. So I should probably take back at least two of those "reallys"

Great post on Facebook from Art Chantry

you see, when he converted to mormonism, he MEANT it.  he stayed a mormon the rest of his life - even after he had split up with his wife.  he was even trying to revive Rat Fink as a cartoon strip to syndicate where ratty was a ecological warrior battling corporate evil and fighting for the forces of good and all that.

This appears to be at odds with much of what I know about Mormonism and everything I know about right wing conservatism. Multitudes, I guess.

I just started alphabetizing my LPs.  Already found three duplicates.

What are the dupes?

Booker Ervin, The Space Book

I'm loving your jazz picks lately. Please keep them coming.

To that end, I have the noisiest most awful upstairs neighbors, and they were on the fucking war path last night. To calm myself down I listened to Coltrane Live in Seattle. I can crawl up the walls, too, motherfuckers.

This guy and his bands always rubbed me the wrong way. His schtick seemed way too calculated and totally empty. And don't try to tell me that that's the point, I ain't buying it. But then I met him and I found him far more down to earth than I ever would have expected. We talked about Moe Tucker being a Tea Party supporter. I still don't own anything he's written or recorded, it's just not my bag, but it's much less annoying after having interacted with him.
