Non-Music Shit / Re: iphone without a contract vs. with a contract

As mentioned above, I would expect that trying to get hooked up with Softbank or AU with your jailbroken American phone will be a no-go. If you are moving there, just wait until you get there to commit to an expesive phone / plan. There will probably be a new wave of phones out by then anyways.

If you are just traveling....I believe you can rent a Softbank SIM card with Japanese cell# if your phone is jailbroken and can run on the Japanese network (not all phones can).

I have mulled the iphone thing the last couple times going there, but always ended up just borrowing a family members phone when needed.

Most Nikon lenses are compatible with Nikon DSLR bodies. I have a D200 and it shoots manual and aperture priority with any AI or later lens, which would be most any lens made after 1977. Older lens can be converted to AI which people did at the time to keep their older lenses, so many of those are available as well.

I am not sure how the lower Nikon bodies handle non-cpu (non auto-focus) lenses...some may not, but starting around the time of the D200 and upwards / newer models there is a function to enter the lens focal length and aperture so the camera will transmit distance information.

Don't know what you budget is, but the D7000 Nikon is supposed to be a kind of bridge between the upper and lower models. Metal shell body is nice compared to plastic on lower end stuff.

As for refurbished....I bought a Nikon D1x refurbished for a great price and it has never had any problem.

Vampyros Lesbos soundtrack (amazing)
The Schoolgirl Report (german porn movie soundtrack 60's or 70's)

Both of these have been re-issued. Definatley on cd and possibly both in vinyl editions as well.

There are Japanese re-issues of some of the Yakuza film music. There was one for the Battles without Honor series I think. There is a series called GO Cinemania that put aout some volumes of Japanese movie stuff from the 60's as well.

Non-Music Shit / Re: Tower Records
« on: October 07, 2006, 11:45:37 AM »
I worked for Tower Books in for a few years from '94 here in NYC. It was in a different building than the record store so I don't know what went on there. The people who were at the top then were complete morons. They all seemed like weird suburban swinger types who had been given a corporation to run. They basically took a really good book store that was kind of operating outside their Sacto realm and flushed it down the toilet.

They had a company called Bayside that was their central buy warehouse. They bought bulk from certain publishers and we had to buy from them. It was always a clusterfuck. The returns process was a joke. I think the Bayside thing was more heavily imposing on the record stores.

Pretty much every decision the corporate people would make when they came out would be ass backwards and set the store back a few miles.

I think the Japan stores were a sort of franchise deal from the bginning.

Anyways....I am sure the current market did not help them, but I think they have been digging their own grave since the early nineties.

Sorry, blues-rock may not be the best description of that tune...some of the other stuff in the movie is pretty close.  Don't know that I can recomend anything along those lines. Checkout the Jacks or Les Rallizes Denudes (Hadaka no Rallizes) or Carol for that matter. Not really like the music in the film, but all good. I have some history of Japanese rock book...I'll see if anything looks close to what you are looking for.

My explanation of the lyric is kind of wrong...my girlfriend translated it as something said when you see a ghost, now that I think of it. It is a prayer word, repeated over and over....na(n)maida etc etc....kind of like saying "oh jesus" or "oh crap" in English over and over when you see a ghost.

Strange: I'm doing ok...What up with you? Still heading to Japan? Branded to Kill is a good one, have not seen that in a while. I got to go through my stuff from last trip and see if I picked up anything you need.

I was looking for this for a while....the 5 minutes print is pretty piss poor and the begining is clipped off somewhat...still a cool movie. I got a dvd on order from Japan...no subs, but it will be a watchable print.

Strange got the oshimaida part...the first word may be written wrong above...I can't remember the Japanese word now, but it is "ghost" or "spirit"...it is the same word the woman is using when she is doing a buddhist chant at some point in the movie. It might be "namaida". The lyric together in the song is kind of silly nonsense talking.

The music in that movie is porbably some unknown random band...the blues rock jams like that were pretty popular at that time.
