Non-Music Shit / Re: AWA CLASSIC WRESTLING
« on: April 04, 2008, 01:19:31 PM »
somewhere in my house i have most of these guys as "action figures" that i bought from toys r us in the mid 80s. the  they came in pairs, Stan Hansen was paired with Crusher Blackwell, Curt Henning came with Greg Gagne (apparently as "Gagne's Raiders, thanks RFA). The best may have been the Carlos Collon(sp) Abdullah the Butcher figures. Both had foreheads that came heavily scared.

Wrestlemania sucked ass. The flair match was the only decent thing on the whole card. I'd rather watch old AWA on ESPN Classic than this shit.

that's the truth. the boxing thing was ridiculous. you think they would have learned from roddy pipper v mr t boxing. damn, even gorilla monsoon boxing a kangaroo was better.

i remember seeing footage on espn when he beat bockwinkle for the awa title. i seem to think maybe i was torn, because i hated bockwinkle (though, now, i respect him, especially after watching the awa documentary, which is great, except it is put out by wwe so it is insanely biased) but torn that he beat him by hitting him with a roll of quarters. i think i was young enough that i wanted a win to be fair and square if it came from a babyface.

does anyone remember the name of his tag team with greg gagne? i think they wore camouflage for some reason.

thanks for getting in that HEBV split. i've been looking forward to that.

my only hope is that their side is so good that  it doesn't make me cry to spend $8 on it.

they need to just put out an album.

Music Shit / Re: The Stylistic Parameters of "CLOWNING ON BITCHES"
« on: March 27, 2008, 11:07:22 AM »
i'm not sure what is going on here, but there is no necessary stylistic parameter of clowing on bitches. neither from the perspective of the clowned, or, more importantly, i think from the case of the clowner. case in point, a few years ago, a homeless guy clowned on me while i was walking down the street because he thought i was wearing a redskins jacket (this is when they were really bad). if that is not freedom, i don't know what is.

"Life is a Problem" repress doesn't come with the 7". Haven't listened to it yet though. I figure I should wait for JC On sunday.

I would have liked to have the Washington Phillips silkscreen though. Great cover. I see that there are a few Washington Phillips cds out there as well. I guess they both must just be different variations on his discography. As far as not much being known about him (so says the insert) there is this 2002 article from the Austin Statesman
