to which so cow replied:
Try and track down the Fellows character Brian Appleton. Did a 'history of rock' series for BBC Radio 4. Good stuff.

Otherwise, can't go wrong with John Shuttleworth. 'Pidgeons in Flight' is incredible.

wanted to create a new topic yesterday but failed, here's how this discussion started:
what else did graham fellows do besides jilted john and live at the hacienda? i can't remember if he put out any other records.

he's still doing music, or comedy, as john shuttleworth
http://www.shuttleworths.co.uk/
I've got the "yamaha years" cd and I hold to it dearly

I  admit to not having listened to "Flying Doesn't Help" in probably 10 years, but is the version of "Lucia" on that the same as the one on the 7"? I found the 7" a few months back and was enthralled by it.

dunno... I'd like to have that single!

Anthony More - World Service LP - which I bought only because the review in a trouser press music guide that perches on the tank of the shitter made it sound interesting and was able to get it online for $4. i've spun this three or four times and it is either great or complete dogshit.

it's a classic
and the other one, flying doesn't help, too...

the 2nd radio stars has the song "no russians in russia", the mere mention of which shoud make it appear tomorrow in the "song stuck in your head this morning" thread
I'm sure it's vastly superior to christ child: I couldn't listen to more than 3 tracks from that pretentious hard rock

As far as bands contemporary to Montrose, I am drawing a blank. There are some good cuts on Derringer's All American Boy, but that record could be narrowed down to an EP.

derringer never delivered, that is true, and I think I have most of the derringer records AND some detective too.
what I suggest is better, and akin, from that era is just about anything by edgar winter.
I was thinking Detroit too and Mongrel but they were probably earlier

even in France everybody loved that Montrose record, people who liked it also like Thin Lizzy and Nazareth
(but not me)

If Christ Child is anything like the Sunset Bombers, I'm totally down for it.

if I remember well, christ child's lp sucks
but I think I've probably very rarely listened to it
so I'm pulling it out now and will listen to it tomorrow!

New Releases For Sale/Distro Updates / MINITEL
« on: May 02, 2008, 01:04:12 AM »
hiya, it's bruit direct disques here again, wanted to turn your attention to this review of our latest record, we think it's accurate and nice
http://siltblog.blogspot.com/2008/05/zombies-dont-thrashthe-charge-of-7.html

for those who can't click or scroll here's what tom lax is saying:
The French they are a funny race. They like to do it with their________. Drum machines? Synthesizers? Baguettes? Aperitifs? I forget how that old chestunt ends, anyway, the Bruit Direct label is doing a fine service to us all by providing the most wonderous noise escargot, seemingly feeding their potent Gros Gris a diet of petit greens & toxic earth. The 2nd release, this 7" from Minitel is a plump bugger ripe w/schizophrenic angst; the a-side is clearly borne out of the avant soil once trod upon by Ilitch & DDAA while the flip sounds like the band harvested an entire field of wormwood, distilling it into a noxious absinthe of Swans like potency. The blind carnage that follows, well what did you expect, A Saucer Full Of Secrets? Bruit-Direct is growin real live monsters, no two ways about it. Go to http://www.bruit-direct.org/ & see what I mean.

we are still doing a special offer for both our releases, you're still welcome to get either of those separately and we are looking for affectionate distros

thank you.
