if i'm ever feeling uninspired i'll give "french film blurred" a spin and then i'm magically lifted.

Yeah, i'm really sorry about that.  It costs significantly more to produce a record over here (plus there is 19% tax on production) and the shipping rates are a ton.

No way.  But I'll send some to David.

Hi,

I have copies of the new LP by Car Commercials available to order via Paypal now.  You can also get it from S-S and a bunch of other places.

www.cenotaph.org to order.

You can pre-order the limited edition with handmade covers there - limited to 25 but you might have to wait another week or two before they ship as we're not finished making 'em yet.

also, fellow Americans, sorry it's so fucking expensive, the economy is brutal over here and shipping rates are ridiculous .....

Music Shit / Re: Breaking Rare Records

a buddy had a copy of the original comus 'first utterance' LP that he found in some midlands charity shop, still sealed!

the first night he listened to it he fell asleep and left it on the turntable.  he was burning a candle and had it set up in a bad place - when he woke up there was melted wax all over the record and somehow he had burnt the LP jacket.  i think it warped somehow too.

i wonder what the stats on this poll would be if we didn't let people who have ONLY listened to 'nebraska' vote.

as to post-BITUSA, i was joking about 'lucky town' but some people would probably honestly vote for 'the ghost of tom joad' which is allegedly awesome (i've never listened to it).

this is too geek for me. do i really need to choose between, say, 'funhouse' or 'corky's debt to his father'?  this is some "I Love Music" kinda geekery.

'darkness' is mine but i don't know the early one at all and i haven't heard 'the river' in years.

actually i wanted to vote for 'lucky town' but it wasn't an option.

Music Shit / Re: why the fuck are bands doing reunions in europe?!!
« on: April 15, 2008, 07:13:36 AM »
when you play shows in europe, you always get well paid, free alcohol, good food and a guaranteed place to stay.  it's not like in the US or UK where you often have to buy your own beers, might only get $20, and have to find somewhere to sleep yourself.  the europe thing, well, it's a no-brainer.

Music Shit / Re: Out Of Print CD Payday: A Working Guide

that wire 'behind the curtain' is totally incredible; it should be reissued.

something boggles my mind about paying this much for CDs; i guess i'm a vinyl snob and still see CDs as essentially disposable copies.

people have been paying big bucks for game theory CDs for years now - why doesn't someone just step in and reissue them?  i had 3 or 4 copies of 'lolita nation' on 2LP back in college cause I found them for $3 each; no one seems to care about the vinyl now.  what a great great great album.

'underground' isn't even written by a mael!  it's a great song though - 'a woofer in tweeter's clothing' is generally really underrated.  i mean, "whippings and apologies" is so fucking tight!

actually i would also put "number one in heaven" in the infallible category too - if only they didn't make "big beat" and "introducing" in between - then we'd have a six album run of total genius.

i'm scared of post-moroeder sparks, though  i've recently been spinning "angst in my pants" which isn't solid all the way through but has some great songs, like the title track.  i should investigate 80s sparks more.  last week i met one of my partner's coworkers and he was a sparks fan and said his favorite album was "gratuitous sax and violins"... !!  i though "little beethoven" was great and the most recent one good too - yet i never actually would want to listen to them more than twice. does that make any sense?

INDISCREET though - man what an album.  at first it was the sparks album i didn't get but with time it became the most rewarding.  even the filler songs , like "how are you getting home" are  amazing.
