Cities / Re: Denver, CO
« on: June 10, 2021, 07:03:49 AM »
My sister-in-law just moved to Denver, so I will be headin there later this summer. Is the info on record stores above still accurate? Just being proactive here. THanks
It appears Wax Trax, Twist & Shout, and Black & Read are still around.

If you go to Boulder, Paradise Found is decent.

I'm not happy about this, either, but if you consider Lookout probably pressed around 5,000 of each, the band eventually got really popular, and the music still holds up really well, it makes sense.

The pricier Sympathy LPs from this time period like Les Sexareenos go for that $60-80, were likely an edition of 1,000, and normal people have no idea who they are.

Green Day in 1993 after they had signed to the major but before Dookie actually came out. This was still a pretty big show. I would guess 300-400 people were there. All the older punks by me saw them a year or so earlier at a really small show I think is on YouTube.

The Offspring in 1994. The popular album had not come out at this point. This was a pretty small show with 100-150 people.

I eternally regret missing The Donnas in I think in 1998 on their first US tour. The venue by me was tiny. It must have been amazing.

The White Stripes in 2001. White Blood Cells had come out but they weren't on MTV yet. I'd guess there were 150-200 people there.

I'm not sure Black Lips are even worth discussing since everyone on here has seen them at least 5 times but the first I saw them was 2003 with about 20 total people there.

I saw The Hives after they peaked in 2008 because Jack O & The Tearjerkers were opening. I'm a huge Jack O fan but it was obvious how much more The Hives' sound was meant for a 1,000 seat venue. I remember thinking The Hives drummer was a beast.

New Releases For Sale/Distro Updates / Re: Toads 12"

This is good. My quick impression is it's straight forward, catchy, and rocking but has just a little angularness and texture so it doesn't sound like the same old thing.

Oh, shit. Is the first mention of Crudos? Was the answer under our noses this whole time?
Someone else brought them up earlier in here.

I regret not seeing Los Crudos when they played in like 1998.

I YouTube'd that recording of Carbonas "Bet Ya Lyin'" a long time ago.

I saw them probably 20 times and never heard them play that.

I saw them live in 2003 (Denver) and thought they totally shredded. I bought their first 7" and LP from them but neither grabbed me as much as seeing them. Sounds like there is reason for that.

I pretty much only like straight forward punk and rock. I'll exclude legacy acts still going but will include newer groups featuring old timers.

Patsy - LA Women
Trampoline Team - Drug Culture
Rik and Pigs - Child's Gator
Beatniks - Theme
Buck Biloxi - Red Lounge LP and Holodeck 7"
Platinum Boys
Nancy
Dials
Life Stinks
Natural Child
Soda Boys
Milk Lines
Danny and Darleans
Sleeping Beauties

Non-Music Shit / Re: how to play fast punk drums
« on: October 29, 2019, 01:10:25 PM »
I don't know how to play anything but at least conceptually know guitar and bass structures. I do not understand drums at all so this was enlightening for me.
