Since you're a Floridian, though from a different market, you may enjoy Jonah Keri's The Extra 2%, about the Ivy League/Wall Street influence on the Tampa Bay Rays.
I've never read it but David Halberstam's The Breaks of the Game about the 1979-1980 Portland Trailblazers is supposed to be exceptional. Pretty much everything by him is supposed to be great but I've only read his The Education of a Coach about Bill Belichick.
If you don't know much about sports books, John Feinstein is one of the most prolific book writers out there and what I've read by him is good, but I avoid his Duke/Bobby Knight adulation. Of his I've read Open: Inside the Ropes at Bethpage Black and Next Man Up: A Year Behind the Lines in Today's NFL.
I mostly read football and a few randoms I enjoyed were The GM: A Football life, a Final Season, and a Last Laugh about longtime GM Ernie Accorsi and The Draft about the 2005 draft.
