So, in the end, the Meaty Buys 'Cut a Fart' ep is considered one of America's 3rd largest citie's best punk 7's? Well, I guess that about deserves three fingers blown off on the fourth.

Yes, by one (?) person in this thread.

Also bizzarre in that both Fat Mike and Ben Weasel are making "adult music" -- in the case of the former, music about S&M and advanced sexual perversity and refs to heavy, long-term drug use, and in the case of the latter, existential crises and etc. -- but most of their fanbase is comprised of 16-year-olds.  Obviously there are middle-aged idiots looking to reprise their youth in there, but it's so strange.  Someone like Taylor Swift is making music that's intended, from the instrumentation to the lyrics, for a teen audience, but bands like NOFX & Screeching Weasel continue to make music as if their crowds are growing with them, and by and large, they aren't.  I also realize this is a stupid post.

It's both fascinating and embarrassing that there are still hordes of (now) adult pop-punks with chain wallets, leather jackets & '27' tattoos who still literally worship everything those guys do. Googling 'Ben Weasel' is also consistently hysterical.

Ben found divine inspiration through opera in recent years, and this new album (funded by Indiegogo) is a rock version devoted to Italian opera Rigoletto.

yeah its pop punk....its hard to say what fits what nowadays

where do you draw the line between fast powerpop and pop punk, I guess

Most of it is pop punk. If there's no discernible 60s influence, it's probably pop punk.

Exactly.

Really like that Meaty Buys record. The Epicycle LP is neat. The comps are both mildy annoying because they each omit a great song (or two) from the original album.

Thinking Epicycle is 'ok I guess' while praising some new Jeffrey Novak Urban Outfitters hipster expose (among other trash) is just fucking funny / who cares.

Guida are just sourcing material to re-arrange cut & pasted bits from without any personality or imagination. The result a faceless or unattractive interpretation. If you're in the right mindset - maybe they put on a 'really fun show'.

Have any of you watched footage of Lydon being interviewed from the last ten years or so?  He's a proper diva.  It's great.

Hilarious! I've spent several drunk nights exclusively watching Lydon interviews.

Lazy Smoke - Corridor of Faces LP

Never understood the dismissive review in Acid Archives. A truly great album that I listen to often.

I've always loved Buffalo and the surrounding area. Would never rule out the possibility of living there.

Black Abba? Giorgio Murderer?

A shame they're both garbage, given how delightfully cute thier names are. What will they think of next - LOL :-)

I own both 'Raw Power' mixes. They're each good in their own way - but I do really love the Iggy mix. Technical justification for why it's not good is irrelevant to me. The guitar sounds incredible. I'll be back next year to rehash the same statement.

Brilliant.

Maybe I'm overlooking it - but the best MnC demo I've heard doesn't even seem to be on here. I guess it's safe to assume a $25 45 b/w an alt mix is planned for RSD.

Why not continue to oversaturate their discography to hell? I assume Burger is already in a panic trying to license the 15 count cassette version that comes in a fanny pack.

just was thinking of first time i saw baseball furies, in green bay.  they were on stage gettin' ready to start, looking menacing, song clicks in or whatever and within 3 seconds Jimmy was flipping out and jumped backwards into his amp and knocked the whole thing over and the band screeched to a halt. fucking awesome. he was playing a pink bass.

only crazier, similar instance i remember was watching CPC Gangbangs in montreal, and Roy knocked over his microphone and broke his guitar like a fucking madman...during sound check.

I remember both of these! That CPC Gangbangs sound check (witnessed by maybe 8 people?) was brilliant.

Was just thinking of that Baseball Furies set recently. They got up on stage looking menacing as fuck, especially Jimmy. From what I recall, he jumped into the air when the count off to the first song started and came down back first into his amp at the same time the first chord rang out out, knocking over his amp and a bunch of drum mics. It was the most memorable first 5 seconds of any bands set I've seen.

Looking back. It's very funny how intimidating the Furies were to me before actually meeting them. Some of the nicest, most down to earth people.

Unfortunately, there's a great loss of material: gone are dozens if not hundreds of photos, various bulletins, scandalous tour updates.

I have a preserved memory of Derek offering, for days on end, to steal an entire shopping cart full of food for our apartment -- and then sheepishly begging a ride to the store and buying ingredients for chicken fettuccine alfredo instead.

True story - I was the designated getaway driver. We pulled up to the store and Derek was dead-set on this plan. He ran inside while I sat in my car, parked closest to the entrance - quietly waiting for him to rush out with a full cart of groceries. Maybe 10 minutes later, I walk inside to find him politely asking an employee where he could find the parmesan cheese. Think I just looked at him and said 'You wanna just buy this stuff?' and he replied '..Yeah.. I guess.' I drove him home and he made everyone chicken fettuccine alfredo for dinner.
