Cimmeron is definitely Milwaukee (some guys brother was in Bad Boy maybe?).  Pretty sure Smokehouse is Green Bay (where'd you get Oshkosh?).  Both definitely awesome.

Also I rarely buy singles.  I don't do DJ nights and I just putting on a LP and the playing the whole side while I'm at home reading or just chilling.  45s are for ppl that entertain others at their home or DJ a lot.

If you just want to read or chill, why use records at all when you can play hours of shit without getting up at all? Records are not a passive way to listen to music, at least compared with almost every other option at this point.

The idea of 45s being only for entertaining others or DJing is beyond retarded.  I buy way more 45s than LP's (usually a handful every week) and I rarely have anyone over, ever!  Couldn't agree more with Todd about records not being a passive way to listen to music (especially nowadays).  I get putting on an LP while you're reading or vacuuming / doing dishes, etc.  But more often than not, I am actively listening to my records, standing around the turntable, playing one after another.  Even if it's an album.  Unless it's for the sole purpose of background music, I'm usually engaged with it for the entire duration.  When the purpose of music is simply background noise though - these days, I usually just end up getting unintentionally preoccupied with what I'm doing and going without it completely.  But that's not how I prefer to listen to music, anyway.

And I totally do not get how anyone 'couldn't fathom buying a record for one song'.  Especially when we're talking about $1 records.  I'd prefer to own a song on a 45 instead, simply because it takes up less room and is easier to toss on to the turntable, but that's beside the point.  There are countless great songs that trump entire 'solid' albums, and unfortunately tons of them are not 'the hit' on a single.  A great song is a great song and whatever surrounds it doesn't detract from it.  I guess I get it if you're just really, really lazy and it takes too much effort for you to dig out an LP, find the track, guide the needle to it - only to take it off and re-file it as soon as it's finished.  But I do that all the time.

But most of the shit I listen to TOTALLY SUCKS MAN!!

And while I'm being nitpicky - 'Love Is Like A Telescope'?  That doesn't even register at all for me on that Roulettes LP.  'Baby Don't Go' & 'Come On' suck?  Also - 'Little Girls' on that Crash Street Kids LP is better than 'Into You'.

It's odd to me that anyone would think 'War Stories' on the Starjets LP is awesome, but '10 Years' & 'What A Life' are both disposable garbage.  How is that even possible?

Same could be said about 'Labour Of Lust' ('Skin Deep'?  'American Squirm', etc.?).

Actually, most of the examples in this thread are absurd to me!

They're basically the bootboy glam version of the Ramones worship bands from the 90s.  Similar approach to copying the image, song titles, record covers, production, lyrics, etc. without bringing something new to the table.  The territory they are mining just isn't as widely known & the plagiarism is more ambitious (the way they legitimately nail certain production elements & immaculately revamp old glam sleeves).  I'm sure they're sweet guys & put on a fun live show...

That #1s song is far too modern sounding to be compared to anything that was on Good Vibrations.  The style / structure relates more to current 'jangly garage pop' than anything from the 70s or 80s.

Beyond that, the production is very flat and digital sounding with bad vocal effects.  The song just feels generic & lacking in any excitement or character, to me.  Also feel like I've heard that exact same intro part several times over the past few years in other songs.

Also, w/ an Android phone, you can easily just take out your battery.  So if battery power is a big concern, you could just buy an extra $8 battery to keep around & swap in when you need to.  I don't do this, but know someone who does.

Just like a computer, the sound quality depends on your MP3s & whatever app you're using to play them.  No issues.

If you have an Android, you can add a 64 Gig MicroSD Card & fill it up w/ music.  If you want your phone to double as an Mp3 player, that's a pretty big advantage over an iPhone.

Have you heard the second album 'Touch'?  Have that one too, but never really registered with me.  Not nearly as good & I probably don't need to keep it around - it has it's moments though.

'DJ moves' (zzzz this thread isn't actually about how proud you are of your boring DJ night) aside, if you think the actual SOUND quality is noticeably much better on your Technics 12 over a nice $300 tuntable with the same cartridge / stereo - you're probably either an audiophile or lying.  I get wanting super high quality sound (and I don't think genre matters, unless maybe Roy Oden mastered it), but that has nothing to do with what turntable handles the best DJing.

Steve, let me know if you get one of these.  Didn't know about that AT model before reading this thread.  Definitely curious.

I currently use the same Technics as you (w/ the automatic return) for my main turntable.  It's a pretty good turntable (actually don't even mind the auto return as much as others I've had), but been keeping my eye out for a replacement for a while.  Probably an SL 1200, but weighing other options as well.  Somebody recently recommended a Music Hall, but those things seem a little ridiculous..
