Music Shit / Re: Big Star Doc Opens Today
« on: December 02, 2013, 07:37:50 AM »
Sounds like most people liked this doc a lot more than I did.  Worth watching due to the subject matter and some great moments, but found it to be pretty dissapointing overall.  Lots of glossed over details bothered me & the second half was pointless.  Editing also was totally irritating in several spots (including the music and even song choices at times).

Damn!  That's some next level incompetency.  And probably makes the PayPal claim complicated if the guy is just completely denying sending you that record..

I'm sure he confuse both and list it wrong. Trying to solve the thing with him but what a dumbfuck!

Yeah... this is a problem.  So far bought 3 different records that were either the wrong pressing or wrong record completely off Discogs.  One guy told me 'Well, that was the closest match'.. well, it's still the wrong record!

Discogs also needs to force sellers to state whether a 45 comes w/ a picture sleeve, company sleeve, or generic.  So many sellers grade the company sleeves or even generic sleeves with no other description.  I find myself having to message the seller 9 out of 10 times to find out what it is (usually not a picture sleeve).

I find it hard to believe that a Maniac remake can possibly be better than the original with Spinell's performance. I can believe that it might not be bad, but there's no way it can be better than the original, which is one of the best and bleakest horror flicks of all time.

Agreed on Maniac.  I thought the remake REALLY sucked.  Not memorable or creepy in the least.  People saying it was great are out of their minds.  Not even worth a watch.

Used Records For Sale/Auctions/Wantlists / Re: WTB: LOW DOWN KIDS LP's

I think it (the Excel 'lost album') actually is called 'If It Rains', which only adds to the confusion.  It's great though.  That and Favourites remain my favorites (and should each be seriously considered for another pressing or release of some sort).  The Jeff Hill LP has some of his best songs and is well worth owning as well.

Just got the Silent Noise LP in the mail yesterday, but haven't had a chance to put it on yet.  Loved the clips I heard though!

Always looking for more of LDK releases!

Good luck tracking these down. Saw another Excel recently, but lemme look and see if it's still available..

Went to the Austin Record Convention this morning with $200 and no expectations. Left an hour later with these and a few others:

International Broadcasters!  Need that one.

Glad I'm not the only one who prefers my records sealed.  The only experience that beats the feeling of the shrink on my fingers while jamming a 64 kbps stream on YouTube is hard filing.

As an alternative to new shelving, I highly recommed looking into a storage unit.  Cuz let's be honest, - once you check a new acquisition off the want list & hard file, it's pretty much game over.

just gave my carpenter friend a bunch of my hard earned cash to make me this custom mahogany-veneered  record shelf i designed.  will hold roughly 1200 LPs.  can't wait to say goodbye to expedit.  will post finished pics when ready.

Anyone know what this sort of this runs in terms of price? I'm SERIOUSLY out of space and I can't keep buying these fucking expedits.

Doesn't the above shelf only hold about half the amount as an Expedit?  I want to build another shelf eventually as well, but think I'd need something that utilizes a lot more vertical space.  That's the main appeal of the Expedit for me.

Great looking shelf up there though..

Same here.  It's a must own for fans of this kinda' stuff, in my opinion.  Super good!  Worth it for 'Sing Me Your Love Songs' alone.

I like the vocals!  One guy is trying to rip off McCartney, but ends up sounding like a retarded / troll version of Eric Carmen; the other guy like a generic Dave Smalley; the third guy is ultra nasal and actually technically awful.  But somehow it all works (for me).

This record is totally good with plenty of really great moments.  I'd go further than everybody else and say there are only 2 or 3 bad songs on the album.  It's a clumsy and sometimes awkward record ('Turn It Down' [A+]), but more charming than offputting.  Great production also.

Weekend love and make it to the party are pretty good.

yep the 2 other "great" song with "All the Kids on the Street" and still...

I will listen to those songs later, but the idea of paying $22 for a Hollywood Stars record is kind of blowing my mind right now. Is there even another good song on the official LP besides "All the Kids on the Street?" I haven't played my copy in like seven years so I forget.

it's hard to listen to the songs since this is just 30sec sample.

I dig the cover though.

'Escape' & 'Kings Of The Night Time World' are both on YouTube:

Looking forward to hearing the full LP!  I agree the official album (though worth it for the aforementioned three songs) is painfully weak and way overproduced, but this stuff sounds a million times better.

'Escape' was always one of my favorite songs off 'Welcome To My Nightmare' (am I the only one that likes that LP?) and was surprised to find out it was a slightly modified Hollywood Stars cover.  Hope the rest of the tracks are good, but planning on picking it up on the strength of what I've heard so far.
