For insertion into this weeks personals section, desperately seeking the return of the pseudo-legendary New York Singles Scene. Originally taking place periodically at the actually legendary Plant Bar at the dawn of the 2000s, NYSS is a DJ gathering with a simple rule: only 7" singles from the mid-70s to the mid-80s are allowed. Primarily punk, post-punk, new wave, indie, DIY, KBD, minimal, synth, rough trade, desperate bicycles and other records with cheap fold out stapled xerox sleeves, rubber stamped labels, rub-down letraset typography, small runs and small impact. Or power-pop one-hit wonders.

This retro revival takes place at the retro-futuristic Jupiter Disco, known for fantastic drinks, snacks, vibe and sound system, sound that is way overkill for these terribly recorded and pressed singles.

The DJs/collectors/selectors Dan Selzer with Aileen Brophy and Chris Matheson will try to rise to the challenge of playing a series of records many of which are well less than 2 minutes long. If you think beatmatching 12 minute machine-programmed club "trax" is a challenge, you haven't lived on the edge like a punk rock DJ.

This is purely a happy hour event so don't show up at 9:45 and get mad when we're packing up at 10pm to go home and get ready for bed. Come promptly after work like an adult. It is easy, it's cheap, come and do it.
