i recieved a few outright offers. one was really insulting. one was reasonable but i think i can do better doing it piece by piece. it will take longer but what the hell... why let someone else make money off of the time and effort i spent hunting records down...

in other news... the polish place by where i am currently staying makes a damn fine potato pancake.

Too bad that you have to purge on ebay right now cuz I think the most sellers are hurting right now. It definitely looks like a buyers market as far as the record listings go. Good luck to you and I hope everything works out for you.

I've been a bit worried about the market, too, especially now that I have a heap of stuff scheduled to start on Sun.  Has anyone else noticed this?  I thought about waiting till fall to sell, but decided (wrongly, perhaps) that the seller's market woes are probably less a seasonal thing than a general slumping economy thing.  But then again, I'm no economist.

Either way, that sucks Tony.  Wish ya mad profits.  All I can suggest is to list 'em on Sun. and Mon. nights between 6-8 PST, when most people are at home (i.e., near their computer).  That strategy really has worked well for me.

Chrome - Half Machine Lip Moves (awesome)
Milk 'n' Cookies (equally awesome)
Nice Face - Can I Fuck It? (killer; I wanna vinyl release)

Also got my Hozacs d'oro in the mail today.  Jacuzzi Boys seemed pretty good, but also struck me as a bit slow and languid, a tad paint-by-numbers-ish.  Yet, despite this, pretty good nonetheless... Started to play the Black Orphan, but I took it off the platter 'cause I was about to go for a jog and I didn't want the sound of being chewed up and spit out by a garbage compactor (on acid!) to be stuck in my head while exercising.  Seemed cool, though.  Haven't spun the Dutchess/Duke.

yeah, i remember that episode where he was smoking a cigarette contemplated to himself and the voiceover said "this cigarette is hopefully making me look edgy".  whatever.

guys, please.  what the hell is pretentious anyways.  the guy is a writer and has a cynical attitude like all yall.  maybe you just dont like the mirror??

It's actually quite possible that I'm just jealous.  Hell, I'd trade jobs with him any day.  Plus, my wife, like LauraB, thinks he's just the hottest.

I wouldn't go quite as far as teenagegurls in my disdain--I do like that he's frequently trashed, and that he used to cook food on acid while in culinary school--but he's clearly a pretentious jerk.  Those voiceovers are cringe-inducing; he's not nearly as poetic/insightful as he believes himself to be.  Sounds like something out of a 12th grade creative nonfiction workshop.

I always assumed someone else wrote the awful voice-overs, he just had to read them.

That may well be true.  I do know he has published lots of books and essays, though.

I got mine 20 minutes ago (literally) and it's playing right now.  I am in full concurrence with the above post.  AMAZING.

45 days is the limit for opening a PayPal dispute, just so ya know.  If 44 days pass, I'd recommend opening a dispute in the friendliest possible manner--I got burned once for not doing so....

Disc Doctor fluid supposedly kills/removes/prevents further mold.  Audiophiles swear by the shit.

It sounds to me like your dog and I have almost the exact same diet.  Except that I'd delete the spinach and add grilled cheese sandwiches and alcohol.  And pizza.

My cat tried to do that to me a few weeks ago, but the production in producing a hairball is so loud and lengthy I hit the eject button before he could launch.
Yet another advantage of cats.  Dogs will just projectile vomit all over, while cats always make that retching, muscle spasm motion that always gives you at least a 3 second window to move/kick them away.  Without this early warning system, my records would've been ruined long ago.

Sounds to me like two more advantages of not owning any animal that has vertebrae.  Aquasaurs and Sea Monkeys--now those are the shit.  Feed the little fuckers a spoonful of powder once a week and they're good to go.  Don't need any affection, and if they puke, it stays in their own little contained environment.  Then they just re-eat the puke, and the cycle begins again (though I guess some dogs do this, too).  It's very psychedelic if you think about.

That's terrible.  The only "bright" side to flood damage is that at least the things still have a shot at playing.  You'd have to deal with the deeply unhappy prospect of owning thousands of generic white sleeves filled with now-uncollectible records, but at least you could still enjoy the music.  Some guy donated a box full of moldy and still-kinda-damp 50s-60s jazz records to the Goodwill where I used to work.  The manager was about to throw them out, but I stopped him and brought them home. I just threw away the sleeves, cleaned off the recs. and they played just fine.

House fires scare the hell out of me.  I live in a pre-1900 mansion divided into apartments full of a rotating cast of imbecilic college kids.  If I obsess on it hard enough, I can easily paint a vivid mental picture of a faulty wire spurting sparks, or some dingbat sorority girl leaving a space heater on a couch.  Fuck.  It'd be tough to restart a collection after losing everything.  I actually have a plan for the records if the house catches on fire and I decide (unwisely, no doubt) that I have a minute or two to spare: Throw the goddamn crates into the yard out our two-story living room window and hope for the best.
Still, the majority of people on bikes are just using them for (can you believe it?) a cheap way to get from point A to point B...Holy shit!
That's me.  I see members of the Jerk-off Cycling Club all over town, but they might as well be in another dimension as far as I'm concerned. I ride a bike 'cause I live only a mile from where I work/study and don't care to pay $200 a year for a parking permit.  I've got a '74 Schwinn Typhoon cruiser I scored at a Goodwill for $10; my wife got a '79 Schwinn Collegiate on the same trip for the same price.  Mine's a bit rusty, but it's a smooth ridin' motherfucker nonetheless, as are pretty much all genuine Chicago-made Schwinns (i.e., pre-early 80's).  Also fun is to get really trashed and ride around the neighborhood at four in the morning.  Just remember to bring some pepper spray if you ride an old Schwinn through a city at night--I've heard my share of shady comments from G's at bus stops (e.g., "Nice bike.  Better keep that mothafucka locked up, dawg...")

Music Shit / Re: Songs For Fevers....

I usually like stuff that is psychedelic and drone-y.

Me too.  Or shoegazery.  Or all of the above.  Whatever it is, it's gotta complement those weird, repetitive, sluggish-but-intense dream states that fevers always bring about.  Man, those are strange.  Not exactly nightmares, but a bit sickening and disconcerting nonetheless, and they keep on slogging forth even when you're awake (or as "awake" as you ever are when you have a really high fever).  It's as if your brain boils, and all that bizzaro shit that usually wallows in the depths of the Id just kinda bubbles to the top (only without all the sex drive, sadly).  Or maybe the brain just has to sort of go to sleep so the body can concentrate its energy on slaughtering germs.  Either way, last time I was sick, I listened to Slowdive and (later-era) MBV.  It seemed pretty apropos.

Non-Music Shit / Re: another obama flip flop

I find that picture to be even more significant than the flip flop.  A candidate that changes position on a commitment to x amount of town hall meetings?  Not a cool move, but hey, it's not as if either side is lacking in reversals of conviction thus far.  But a candidate that digs Go-Karts?  Fuck, how can you not like a guy who likes Go-Karts? Better than a golf cart w/ Bush I, either way.
