Heads up, cuz some of you wanna know...

Great newly released Live In Amsterdam LP by The Cherry Blossoms just out.

The Cherry Blossoms are to folk music what the Velvet Underground was to rock n’ roll: anti-commercial, rebellious, pure, and unlike anything else. They deconstruct folk into a a very special experimental music, but they insist they’re a front porch band. Specializing in kazoo, 6-gallon bucket, poetry, carefully awry drum rhythms, guitar, and vocals that span octaves, melodies, and time, the Cherry Blossoms are unforgettable.

Lead singer Peggy Snow has said that “No one tries to control what anyone else is doing when we play.” The result is a sound that is ecstatically free, layered, and ranging. While songs like “Amazing Stars” follow a chorus sung together in sweeping, traditional hymn with a few quirks, other songs skip and spaz into a trance awash with unorthodox folkloristic layers. Their sound is at once elusive and timeless (Have I heard this song before?). It’s a sound they’ve been honing for twenty years. The Cherry Blossoms are sure to go down in history as one of the great folk bands of the 21st century.

With a rotating cast of 3-8 performers, their line-up has changed over the years, but most recently consists of: Peggy Snow, John Allingham, Chuck Hatcher, Taylor Martin, Chris Davis, and Allen Lowry. Ever eclectic, members of the band are talented in their own rights. Peggy Snow is a prolific painter, John Allingham is finishing a rock-opera 10 years in the making, Allen Lowry writes amazing unconventional poetry and played drums in Lambchop, Chris Davis is an incredible music curator/contributor to the Nashville music community, Chuck Hatcher can rock any Zepplin song in existence… the list goes on and on and on. They are local legends in Nashville and sure to make music history.

( I had nothing to do w/ this release, i just think John & Peggy & the CB's are great. )

The band and the LP i'm pushing here truly are Fuggin' great.  I know that Krapo and sloweducation are both fans amongst our Termbro brethren.  They've both got tons of great records, impeccable tastes, you know that.

If you read this board and don't have super strict, limited listening habits, then i'd guess at least 80% or more of you will wanna hear and possibly own this fine LP.  There's quite a few sounds/styles one can latch onto here, making for the whole being something else above the sum of probable influences.  A wide appeal spanning multiple genres.

But that's A-OK since you're buying it for the rarity 45 only available in this set, "the breathless spectacle of" 'Asthma Attack' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qU3s7ZqdbQo (link is only an excerpt, but check out that footage!) which is a John Cale produced (while "inexplicably wearing a Dracula cape, and with Nico constantly at his side, knitting a sweater") previously unreleased (un-booted even, i think?) studio outtake from the 1st LP of a holdover from the band's nascent days as The Psychedelic Stooges. 



The CDs are the original Cale mixes, alternate takes, etc as well as 'Asthma Attack' and the originally released album.



Also in the deluxe package is a killer 16 page full color booklet w/ all kinds of cool snaps and great liner notes from Mike Edison, author of "I Have Fun Everywhere I Go: Savage Tales of Pot, Porn, Punk Rock, Pro Wrestling, Talking Apes, Evil Bosses, Dirty Blues, American Heroes, and the Most Notorious Magazines in the World", formerly a pro wrestler, past publisher of High Times and once upon a time drummer for GG Allin, etc.

Hey, listening to Trout Mask Replica currently and thought about what a great intro to Side Two this one has.

It's spoken by the Captain before the music crashes in, full steam ahead.

Haven't thought too much about this beyond current listening, but thought you'd have some other good ones to share.
