EDIT: I got some copies to take around to NYC shops and have a limited number of copies for mailorder as well. http://www.violet-times.com/2013/10/the-cherry-blossoms-live-in-amsterdam.html

Heads up, cuz some of you wanna know...

Great newly released Live In Amsterdam LP by The Cherry Blossoms just out.

Quote
The Cherry Blossoms are to folk music what the Velvet Underground was to rock n’ roll: anti-commercial, rebellious, pure, and unlike anything else. They deconstruct folk into a a very special experimental music, but they insist they’re a front porch band. Specializing in kazoo, 6-gallon bucket, poetry, carefully awry drum rhythms, guitar, and vocals that span octaves, melodies, and time, the Cherry Blossoms are unforgettable.

Lead singer Peggy Snow has said that “No one tries to control what anyone else is doing when we play.” The result is a sound that is ecstatically free, layered, and ranging. While songs like “Amazing Stars” follow a chorus sung together in sweeping, traditional hymn with a few quirks, other songs skip and spaz into a trance awash with unorthodox folkloristic layers. Their sound is at once elusive and timeless (Have I heard this song before?). It’s a sound they’ve been honing for twenty years. The Cherry Blossoms are sure to go down in history as one of the great folk bands of the 21st century.

With a rotating cast of 3-8 performers, their line-up has changed over the years, but most recently consists of: Peggy Snow, John Allingham, Chuck Hatcher, Taylor Martin, Chris Davis, and Allen Lowry. Ever eclectic, members of the band are talented in their own rights. Peggy Snow is a prolific painter, John Allingham is finishing a rock-opera 10 years in the making, Allen Lowry writes amazing unconventional poetry and played drums in Lambchop, Chris Davis is an incredible music curator/contributor to the Nashville music community, Chuck Hatcher can rock any Zepplin song in existence… the list goes on and on and on. They are local legends in Nashville and sure to make music history.
( I had nothing to do w/ this release, i just think John & Peggy & the CB's are great. )

Direct Orders from the label, Hairy Spider Legshttp://www.hairyspiderlegs.com/web/artists/the-cherry-blossoms/
or a limited amount for mailorder from Violet Times: http://www.violet-times.com/2013/10/the-cherry-blossoms-live-in-amsterdam.html

Imported from the band and their label, Rose Mansion Analog, both based in China, so that i could share these sounds w/ Americans who want the wildest sounds but not the highest costs, bypassing the overseas shipping so more fans can have easier access to this superb slab o' wax.

Read what i already sez up there in that purchase link.  Lotsa good descrip's on that page.  Go.

A few choice chants for this post could be:

They're the best new/modern/contemporary band i've heard in years.  You can quote me.

The band's FB page cites influences as "The Velvet Underground, Silver Apples, and Monks, etc."  - what more do ya really need?

The band and the LP i'm pushing here truly are Fuggin' great.  I know that Krapo and sloweducation are both fans amongst our Termbro brethren.  They've both got tons of great records, impeccable tastes, you know that.

If you read this board and don't have super strict, limited listening habits, then i'd guess at least 80% or more of you will wanna hear and possibly own this fine LP.  There's quite a few sounds/styles one can latch onto here, making for the whole being something else above the sum of probable influences.  A wide appeal spanning multiple genres.

Besides my word twisting, there're also blurbs from a few other sources, sound samples and a cool short intro video to the world of The Offset: Spectacles at this link below.

Shops and distros get in touch w/ me if you'd also like to stock this super jam.  Your customers will thank you later.  A list of NY shops/distros i've already sold copies to appears on the purchase link page as well.

I have a small stash of this deluxe boxset from a few years back to sell.  SEALED / NEW.  It's this http://www.discogs.com/Stooges-The-Stooges-Collectors-Edition/release/2583299 and please note, my copy has only the red labeled CDs and yours more than likely will as well.  See Discogs images if you need to see Rhino's explanation.

But that's A-OK since you're buying it for the rarity 45 only available in this set, "the breathless spectacle of" 'Asthma Attack' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qU3s7ZqdbQo (link is only an excerpt, but check out that footage!) which is a John Cale produced (while "inexplicably wearing a Dracula cape, and with Nico constantly at his side, knitting a sweater") previously unreleased (un-booted even, i think?) studio outtake from the 1st LP of a holdover from the band's nascent days as The Psychedelic Stooges

The CDs are the original Cale mixes, alternate takes, etc as well as 'Asthma Attack' and the originally released album.

Also in the deluxe package is a killer 16 page full color booklet w/ all kinds of cool snaps and great liner notes from Mike Edison, author of "I Have Fun Everywhere I Go: Savage Tales of Pot, Porn, Punk Rock, Pro Wrestling, Talking Apes, Evil Bosses, Dirty Blues, American Heroes, and the Most Notorious Magazines in the World", formerly a pro wrestler, past publisher of High Times and once upon a time drummer for GG Allin, etc.

Are The Stooges the greatest band ever?  You tell me.

$22.00 bux sent via FEELESS PAYPAL ONLY shipped via Media Mail in the USA ONLY if you PM me and i still have a copy left for you.  Sorry, Euros / Canucks - it's physically heavy too due to the deluxe package, so this deal is basically only for Amerikans.  If you absolutely need to be sated (i understand, it's The Stooges after all) something can maybe be worked out, but come a few days from now the USPS shipping rates go waaay up, and i don't want to deal w/ customs losing your package or beating it to shit, so no guarantees, pal.  Combined shipping w/ anything in the Discogs link in my signature below.  PM's only for this one, no email- it's for Termbros, not lurkers.  "What are you doing to participate?"

It's true - and he looks like some kind of Reptilian Glam God in this first clip !

The Forty Winks feat. Peter Gutteridge, live @ The Crown 31/5/2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1LcIT4azuw also w/ member of THE PUDDLE on bagpipes (!)

and

Radio One Live To Air - THE FORTY WINKS - NZMM 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=WmKq6MPs0LE also feat. Peter Gutteridge

These are both recent, from the last month, hopefully more to come from this combo which is the recent group of Chris Heazlewood ( KING LOSER / OLLA ) - himself no slouch in the 'unsung legend' sweepstakes .

I'm also wildy in awe of the story i've heard lately of PG's recent 'psychedelic detox' !!

Neither one of these dudes fuck around .

- 4 song, 12" vinyl only EP w/ pro-printed covers and inner sleeve, recorded by Justin Higgins at Old Standard Sound in Portland, Oregon

RIYL: Mirrors, Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band, The Hunches, good music

The same high quality you've come to expect from prior records on Violet Times, it's our first 'modern/current/new/unknown' band release and there's a definite reason for that.  Full description / write-up posted on the main page of our site now.  We'll also remind you that this Eugene, Oregon based band was hand-picked to open up for The Hunches final tour a few years ago.

These clips appear to hear, and view in the second case, on the link at the top and bottom of this post but for those that are glued to this screen and/or Lucas Gunn's eye catching art, i'll make it easy on ya.

2 Termbro's, hi-jinks, and good tunes.  ('Flash' = sloweducation, VT = 'some jerk')

Daddy's is at 435 Graham Ave (between Frost St & Richardson St) Brooklyn, NY

https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=273756885994384#!/event.php?eid=273756885994384 if you roll that way, otherwise here's the jizzed gist of what it sez:

This time out we'll make sure to play a nice assortment of NZ vinyl in honor of Nunvember and Flying Nun's 30th Anniversary in addition to the usual assortment of DIY/Proto/Psych/Scum/Pop 'punk' 'musics' & (Black) Rock n Roll degenerates + easy action.

Flash Gordon will also be bringing his sack. He's the type of guy who buys all kinds of overpriced, sorry, i mean 'expensive', NZ rarez. He knows that there were more than two record labels in the 80's on the island and will represent Xpressway, Onset/Offset, etc. accordingly. You like.

Allison & someone else is bartending

Hey all, Justin and I are playing records at Daddy's on Thursday nite.  Allison & Liam are bartending.

It'll be fun.  We will play records you'll like and your girlfriends (and potential girlfriends) will as well.

Here's an FB "event invite" if you go that way, and would like more info & preview vids of some of the music that i might bring (Justin is smart enough to not have FB) as well some genre tags that i thought were mildly amusing during the 3-5 secs it took me to shart the invite info out.  https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=142959185800473  I left off 'shart rock', but give it to you now.

Forget about Wall Street for the nite (but just for the nite) and have some fun w/ us.

Hey, listening to Trout Mask Replica currently and thought about what a great intro to Side Two this one has.

It's spoken by the Captain before the music crashes in, full steam ahead.

Love it!

Haven't thought too much about this beyond current listening, but thought you'd have some other good ones to share.
