Non-Music Shit / Re: Mike Doskoci Anecdotes
« on: November 27, 2014, 07:12:00 PM »
He's still in Columbus, and I believe perpetually seeking bandmates. I see his post on friend's facebook walls sometimes. I don't know him, but superficially he seems "settled down" now.
I just looked him up.. looks like he's in an old buddy of mine's band now.  I rarely see the dude but they played one of those all day "fest" shows at yr work awhile back, maybe you were working but could've been on the other side at the time.  Or whatever, i guess he most likely looks like any other random.  They changed their name that day or right before (they were on the flyer w/ the old name) because some other band was also using it, so i don't recall the new one but could find out for ya.  (but only for k. :P )

I just remembered as i typed- it was the same day/nite that PR played cuz my buddy msg'd me in case i wanted to see 'em but i told him i wouldn't make it up there 'til way later (meaning when PR was playing).

Non-Music Shit / Re: lathe cut / ltd shit on vinyl

Doesn't Fred Cole/Tombstone Records do lathe cuts?
I dunno for sure about lathes, but he at some point bought the record press that "Louie, Louie" was cut on, used it to press Tombstone releases, etc. That may be what you're thinking of?

Someone told me lately that Adam Smith (ex- CDR/Musicol) has a lathe since moving to Texas not long ago.

- SEMA 4 "In Memory of..." (LP. 1997 / rec. 1979) [UK] : http://youtu.be/-_337R-NyhQ
Also jamming that Sema 4 comp lately, digitally.  Lamenting the sad fact that i don't have the wax on it and also bemused/amused by the UK Mod thing that perpetuates and always seems so random (bands and/or style-wise, i guess is what i'm not articulating very well right now) whenever i see or have heard those types of "This Is Mod" comp's that these guys are sometimes included on.

Laughing Hyenas- You Can't Pray a Lie- what else could you possibly want on a frustrating Saturday evening- in fifteen minutes, the catharsis will be total
Cool. Recently watching a bunch of their live vids as well as this Detroit Punks episode on John Brannon http://youtu.be/jFaXYsdEsGs .. Just a guy who wanted to "Fuck shit up" and still does as he says multiple times throughout.  Really loved the Hyenas in the 90's, i should go back to revisit their albums soon.

Letting the Haze flow... https://www.youtube.com/user/willfosterhaze/videos Somebody put a bunch of these on wax please, or give Will a ton of money to do it himself.

Also of note http://youtu.be/u_UGSnsAKl0?list=UUNpQ6wq6fsverILB_8Y-STQ Will's right in his praise in the description for the vid/song here. Bygones = best, most overlooked band/artist in OH since Bill stated the band circa 2000-ish. Easily the best version of Guinea Worms was OG lineup when Bill was still doing double-duty as guitarist in GW while getting his own Bygones going.  Criminally under-released band/artist featuring some of the best songwriting and guitar playing Ohio's ever seen.

Saw Dreamsalon for the 1st time a few months back, definitely one of the better bands i've seen this year.  A+

http://youtu.be/LqIMjHpxJes EBOLA SYNDROME (1996)
Trashy, crude, ridiculous, and topical.. probably better that i'm only sort of paying attention as i do other things.  I almost wonder how some of the funny one-liners i see as subtitles play out to a native speaker tho.

also the guy who introduces chuck in the 69 vid reaaaally sounds like henry rollins to me.

It's Kim Fowley, he was the MC that nite.  You can see him give Chuck a low-five about 30 secs in.  More vintage Fowley footage sure would be nice.

Man, that thing is so quiet (tho maybe not as bad as the Live At End Cole Ave i have) - does anyone know if that newer Boston Tea Party is super quiet as well?

I was jamming the original Live '68 LP earlier today tho.  Maybe this is their best rec?  Wondering how the rest of the set mentioned on the back cover liners sounds too.

Music Shit / Re: What is the best punk album of the 1990s?

Just dusted off my copy of "Hey Baby It's The Stallions" and man, that was sounding pretty good (side 2 in particular.)   I think I appreciate this more now than I did then.
I was just wondering lately if this held up.

TJSA 'Bait and Switch' is still great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oLI9JH5v-E

Just came out with a new tape called "Domestic Five".  Five tracks with the new lineup, it's pretty great.

Got this and "KC KS" live tape at their show last nite.  Both of 'em rock and their set last nite was a good one too.

I believe the Ratfucker is working in a guitar shop in southeast Ohio...

Right, as usual.. because running HOG just wasn't paying the bills.

Every time I add a new release to the database that has more than one variation it takes me forever to figure out how to add one to the master release so they're all lumped together. Usually someone else ends up stepping in and doing it. Seems it should be pretty easy but I don't see a tab to do that anywhere. Trying to add the Next "alt sleeve" version to the master release that already has the original pressing and the reissue with the "original sleeve." Help?

http://www.discogs.com/label/291417-Cheap-Rewards-Records

Done.. Just had to copy the Alt sleeve [r5859963] release number listed in the upper right corner of entry into the existing master.
