Cities / Re: wtf is there to do in cleveland oh....???
« on: May 06, 2012, 09:31:34 AM »
if you search "Cleveland" there's a thread like this that i posted names and locations of a bunch of great spots to check out here in CLE.
most of them even managed to stay open since last year.

haus frau is steve's new record shop (w.65/detroit). i swear the shop emblem is a secret swastika. the capital theater is next door and the renovated interior is pretty bad ass. min anh is a few blocks east on detroit and has giant bowls of pho for $6.50.

i highly recommend everyone attending the sunday thing at Orale walk next door and meet the man that owns johnnyville sluggers, he makes baseball bats, for real, and he's well, quirky.

tom kinnish owns royal garden records. he will try to get you to leave when you walk in by telling you he has nothing post-'72 or post-'70 or however he's feeling that day. he prefers when you bring lists. tom has lots and lots of records in fantastic shape. tom is the shit.

my mind's eye is an amazing record store. i bet 50% of my collection has passed through Charles' hands. you aren't going to find a mislabeled holy grail in the wrong sleeve because Charles would have already sold that record for a fraction of what other shops would, and to someone who was around when it was priced and stocked. great records pass through MME all the time, but get sold, because it's a great record shop.

if you have spare time check out the new aquarium
after the aquarium walk to Carney's bar on Washington in the west bank of the flats. weed, weirdo, and dog friendly.

buy all narcotics off of someone from Toledo or Detroit.

I just wish they'd go ahead and reissue this l'il babe: http://www.popsike.com/INTERNATIONAL-ARTISTS-BOX-SET-13th-floor-elevatorsNM/250143500219.html

i mean seriously, who wouldn't want that?

charles at MME in cleveland has had one up for sale in the shop for a while now, i think it's $350.

i feel that we here in cleveland were extremely undervalued on this list.

Beez - Easy is a fantastic song. heard it on a blog a few years ago, anyone heard the b-side?

13th floor elevators 10cd box set - the "lost" record of bull in the woods out takes is pretty fantastic.

wifestriker demos for the next show - not really happy with them, not mean enough, not tinny enough for my taste.

white guilt LP - pretty great in terms of a lot of the recent hardcore records released i think.

consignment CS - fucking hippies.

SQRM - Rodeo LP is shit, too slow, and extremely boring.
Hoax - Demo CS is pretty great, excited to hear more.
Raw Moon - Demo CS is pretty raw and has a Voivod vibe to it.
White Guilt - really into this, but the LP hasn't shown up in the mail yet so I'm gonna wait to write anything about it.

i really liked Hoover when I was in high school. just pulled their catalog a few weeks ago when going through shit to sell on discogs....hasn't aged well and is now for sale.

also have to give credit to the dude from faraquet, there is no way that I could ever play those guitar parts while singing, fuck...

PIL - Graveyard off of Second Edition. This song is absolutely amazing.

also, Henry Rollins just bought a Black Dice LP off of me on discogs.

white guilt - ST LP
real good and shit. i'm even digging the little metal fills.
blogs have it.
video disease is selling it
think they still have white copies.

went in to pick up some LP mailers, and i came out with:
public image ltd - second edition
be bop deluxe - live in the air age
steely dan - pretzel logic
x - wild gift
all in really nice shape, for under $15.

Does the Unholy Two LP beat their "Kutter" 7"?

the entire record is cohesive and i think it is by far the best music that they have recorded so far.

ak79 - the swingers are so amazing. had never heard of them until the other day. for the past 5 days this is what my girl and i have been listening to at home.

then she goes to work.....

unholy 2 - $kum of the earth - mailman dropped it off friday and i've listened to each side at least 5 times now. it's mean, and not just the vocals, it's pounding and deliberate but not. it's primal but at the same time sounds like something absolutely new. the vocals change A LOT from track to track, which is refreshing. side 2 meanders in all the right ways, and it's just too scary to fall apart even when it becomes so blown out that you don't know how they will be able to get back from the drug fueled basement orgy of murk that i'm calling my favorite record of the year.

ps - what the fuck is up with people buying mode$t mou$e record$ for HUNDRED$ of dollar$ off of me on discogs? if i would have known this a few years ago i would never have gone through long periods of time eating nothing but shells and cheese and ramen and running extension cords to the unknowing neighbor's outdoor outlet in order to have electricity. it's kind of sad that of the hundreds of records i bought in the '90s the only thing worth any $$$ is fucking mode$t mou$e.
