Demo Tape / Wifestriker
« on: March 20, 2010, 08:43:34 AM »
Four tracks recorded 11/2 in the basement of Now That's Class.  Recorded onto an old cassette recorder with one microphone, going to try to re-record this soon, but here it is if you want to listen.... It's all one track because we don't stop playing.  We've got one Pigsticker, one ex-Six Parts Sevener, one ex-Karate for Kidser, and my lazy ass. Songs about t-shirts, chairs, sandwiches with mustard, and Dimebag Darryl, in that order...

Recorded !!/2 in the basement of class with one microphone to cassette. I've never converted a tape to digital before and refuse to spend the 10 minutes it would probably take to figure out garage band's intricacies... l

Non-Music Shit / Hit by a car
« on: July 03, 2009, 04:12:25 PM »
So last night I finished up my bartending shift, hopped on my bike, and started peddling down Detroit Rd. at about 1 a.m.  About five blocks down the road at an intersection, a black sedan ran a red light and slammed into me at about 25-30 mph.  I tried to slide to avoid getting hit, but the guy never hit his breaks and it threw me about 10 feet and destroyed my bike.  It was in front of a bar where there were a few people I know outside smoking. The guy got out of his car to make sure I was ok, then realized about 5 people were about to go after him.  He admitted to being drunk, and waited while the ambulance came to get me.  The EMT immediately got my neck stabilized and rushed me to the hospital.  I was admitted and taken for a PAN scan and multiple X rays.  I left the hospital at 5:30 a.m. with no internal injuries or broken bones, but I cannot put any pressure on my right leg.  I have cuts all over my body, and needed five stitches under my chin.  I have no insurance, and my bike was destroyed.  After the ambulance took me away, the guy that hit me left his information inside of the bar and took off.  I was told today that the police went to his house this morning and he has a court date.  However, he will not receive a DUI.

How do I go about getting reimbursed for my hospital bills and my destroyed bike?  Anyone know what route I should take? I don't want the guy to go to jail so much as I want him to pay for my bills and my bike. Why would the police not have shown up at his house last night?  A friend of mine spoke to the guy today and he said "tell him I'm very sorry and that I owe him a beer." I haven't been able to stand up since 1 a.m. last night.

Non-Music Shit / Moving to your city
« on: March 27, 2009, 11:33:50 AM »
So I made one last attempt at finding a job in Cleveland, had the interview last Friday, and got the call today that they "decided to hire a girl instead".  I've been living here for almost a decade, and I have to give up my apartment and move elsewhere within the next two weeks.  I'm really nervous about it since I have no car, no savings, and a ton of shit to store.

I managed a wine bar here for about a year, it closed a few months back so I receive an unemployment check once a week that will continue for about 4 more months. Problem is, the unemployment doesn't cover all of my bills, so each month I stay here I accrue more and more debt.

I've spoken to a bunch of friends that live around the country, and I have a few options as to where I can stay for awhile, but I'm looking for some opinions on these cities as I've never been to a few of them:

Denver - college roommate has a house that he lives in alone, half a mile from downtown.  I've never been to CO to visit him, and it seems like most bands skip over the city when touring. It also seems like Denver is about a thousand miles from anything else remotely interesting to me.

Ft. Lauderdale/Boca Raton - my cousin just split with her husband and moved here from Pittsburgh.  I'd have my own room in an apartment 8 blocks from the beach.  She works in a cool little pizza place with about 10 cute single girls that are my age, and I've already been promised a bartending gig.  I've read a lot about the south florida music/art scene being huge right now, but this is pretty far away from all of that right?

Brooklyn - my best friend from grade school lives here, i've been out to visit him probably 5 times in the last 3 years.  He lives in a pretty fucking snobby/trendy area (31st st. and 3rd ave. if I remember correctly) right near prospect park.  I talked to him about it last night, I'd have a free place to stay until the end of the summer.  Problem is, his place is tiny, I'd be staying in his living room on the couch/bed and could only bring a duffle bag of clothes and that's pretty much it.  Another problem, dude's been in nyc for almost 4 years now and has made like zero friends, i could really see him sitting around in the apartment all summer, seriously impeding my masturbation schedule.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.  Is it possible to find under-the-table work in Brooklyn (so as to keep my unemployment)? Is Denver a cool town if you hate hippies?  Is Florida really all that bad?  Will you be my friend?

Look for a "for sale" thread coming soon from me, as I'm going to need some extra cash to store all my junk.  All new-ish releases that everyone will give me shit about selling for profit.

Music Shit / Condo Fucks
« on: February 20, 2009, 09:03:23 AM »
So from what I've read this is Yo La Tengo's cover record.  Heard it last night for the first time, not expecting much, but they picked some fantastic bands/songs to cover. Electric Eels, Slade, Troggs, Voidoids, Small Faces, Kinks, Flamin' Groovies, Beach Boys.  I think the fact that it sounds like shitty bar-band cover versions gives it appeal.  Matador is putting it out.  Fuck yeah Ira!

Music Shit / Chargers Street Gang
« on: January 25, 2009, 05:31:17 PM »
So I'm spinning records tomorrow night (first time ever) at the Matinee on W.25 St. here in sunny Cleveland, OH.  I have to dj for 4+ hours and I'm pretty nervous about it.  I'm pulling all of these 45's out of boxes trying to make a list of tracks to play, and I pulled out the old Chargers records.  Damn, I mean these tracks are just destroying me once again like the first time I dropped the needle on them.  I hear NBT, Stooges, Dead Boys, a little Ubu, what a great band!

Non-Music Shit / stereo setup..help
« on: November 30, 2008, 11:27:37 AM »
I grabbed a bunch of stereo equipment while I was home for thanksgiving. It was laying around my dad's fred sanford-esque house. Scored a sony str-de445 receiver, a sony tc-we471 tape deck, and some giant jensen speakers.

I've never owned an actual receiver before, just shitty bookshelf systems from best buy or whatever. So I'm clueless as how to set it up. Speaker wires are gold wire and silver wire, how do I know which color corressponds with the red or black sockets? The receiver has 4 sockets for rear speakers, 2 for center, and 4 for front speakers. Where do I stick the speaker wires? Also, there seams to be no distinction on the speakers themselves regarding left and right, how can I tell?

The tape deck has a red/white socket for both in and out. The receiver also has red/white sockets for in and out. Which do I use and where?

Thanks

Non-Music Shit / Go Go Greyhound
« on: November 26, 2008, 08:00:20 AM »
I'm hungover. I woke up late and was last in line at the station this morning. Now I'm stuck directly behind the bus driver for this 4 hour trip through northeast Ohio and western PA. A friend and I made an ill-advised ATM withdrawal at 4 am and I'm currently shoving kleenex in my nose to make it stop bleeding. The man sitting across from me has like 4 inch long finger nails and a french manicure!?! My head hurts, my mouth has no saliva, and my balls are itchy. The girl next to me is kinda cute, should I just go for and scratch away? Is there an unspoken understanding that one shouldn't stick one's hands down his pants while rubbing shoulders with a person you don't know?

Worst/Best Greyhound stories?

Best ball scratching in public stories?

Fuck, I'm bored.
