Non-Music Shit / Re: Favorite Philip Roth Books?
« on: March 25, 2009, 04:31:26 PM »
I've always wanted to check out some more Roth (beyond Portnoy's Complaint), but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Read Indignation.  It is fucking hilarious.

Non-Music Shit / Favorite Philip Roth Books?
« on: March 24, 2009, 12:43:34 PM »
Any fans of Philip Roth out there?  I'm determined to get through his whole catalog, just curious of anyone had certain favorites.  These are the ones I've read so far....I starred the ones I most enjoyed.

Human Stain
Indignation *
The Anatomy Lesson *
The Prague Orgy
Operation Shylock
The Ghost Writer
The Plot Against America *
Zuckerman Unbound
Everyman *

Or any other writers I should be aware of...

Non-Music Shit / Re: catholic school
« on: February 22, 2009, 04:45:04 PM »
Big ups to parochial schools.  I went to Christian school and I've got no complaints -- regular, working class kids (no thugs or rich kids), assigned books actually at your reading level, small classes, exposure to all those cool Old Testament stories. Cracks me up when dudes born in 1981 try to make their Catholic school experience seem like they were beaten by nuns and raped by priests daily...gimme a fucking break! Catholic
schools stopped being harsh 30 years ago.

I teach English in a Catholic school, and that's exactly the type of experience I am trying to create.  Don't get me wrong, a lot of the hocus pocus shit and the pro life indoctrinating can be really bothersome, but I like to think they will have similar memories when they look back on my classes.

By the way, I was born in 1982 and I went to Catholic school and totally agree.

Listen to the songs "JVCD has no time" and "fishing for snakes" and tell me what you think. "snakes of passion" is good too.
