I'm a bit surprised that no one has mentioned the song "You're Beautiful" by James Blunt.  It seems to have taken siege of adult alternative radio (eg. Delilah -- "Looove Someone Toooniiiight") for the past couple years.  Whenever I work jobs that have the radio/"Corporate HQ approved" mix CDs playing in the background, I'm usually subjected to the majority of the songs mentioned in this thread.  No biggie because I also get the hear the Stones, Zombies, one place used to play the Troggs occasionally, etc.  However, "You're Beautiful" is the only one that I can't push out of my head and it makes me cringe every time I hear it.

Music Shit / is this the worst song ever?

ok.  so i am not one to go on and on about how one song or one band sucks so majorly.  seems like most people here know what sucks, and it's a much better use of time to talk about songs and bands that kick ass rather than lousy songs and crappy bands.

but has anyone here ever realized how bad "rosanna" by toto is?

i mean, i love 80s shit; i was the one who posted about 80s soundtrack rock a few weeks ago. (thanks for all the suggestions.  who knew the teen wolf soundtrack goes for 25 bucks on ebay?)

anyway the song is mortifying.  it cripples you with it's utter disregard for any worthwhile song writing device/technique ever employed in the history of pop music.

here's the music video for the visual learners....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVBqdR_GIO0

you'll notice that this video features HQ audio, so there is absolutely no discrepancy about the band being misrepresented or something like that.

so what is the setting of this video?  is it some kind of urban warehouse district wasteland?  is this their practice space?  or did they just come across this place while roaming the city and decide "let's shred here tonight for this crimson garbed prostitute?"

i like to imagine gg allin and his band in the 1984 "Live Fast, Die Fast" promo video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuZ7R0uqGj0) encountering toto on the street.  what would ensue? gg and the gang (was that the jabbers at that point?) would fucking wail on toto's ass's.  and it would be great. and funny.

also Tuff Turf has a pretty killer soundtrack including an appearance by Jim Carrol performing live and James Spader singing a piano ballad

plus JACK MACK AND THE HEART ATTACK!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc0FamuVRRo

seems like spader is going for a bowie-esque approach to his balladeering

Music Shit / 80's soundtrack rock
« on: August 15, 2008, 09:12:50 AM »
lately i've really come to love a lot of 80's soundtrack rock (in a totally non-ironic way for the record)

best stuff i've found so far...

"holiday road" by lindsay buckingham as well as many other jams on the national lampoon's European vacation soundtrack
"take me back to paradise" by 38 special...seriously this song is fucking great (revenge of the nerds II)
pinball summer soundtrack

anyone else know of anything else special in this "genre?"
