Music Shit / Re: how much of your life is centered around records?
« on: September 03, 2010, 12:53:02 PM »
Weekdays - Probably three or four hours almost every day listening to records after getting home from work, eating, watching a little TV and fucking around on the internet.

Weekends - It'd be rare for me not to check out at least one record store and just as rare not to buy anything, hate leaving a record store empty handed. Probably play records from early evening until whenever I get tired and go to bed.

Haven't ordered as many records from distro's this year as I previously have, trying to cut back a little. I think it'd be impossible to cut records out of my life, too much great music to hear.

Approximately:
4000+ LP's
3500+ 7"s
100-ish 10"s
an insignificant amount of CD's
1 cassette tape

So, what is this lone casssette?

Personal & The Pizzas - Raw Pie. But I just got that on LP, so I'll soon be back to zero cassettes.

I've still got about 400 CDs.  They're worthless.

I found that out recently, traded in a bunch and barely got ?2 ($3) exchange for each.

I'll be the first to admit it's way too much. There's records I haven't played in years and I should just sell, but I find it incredibly hard to get around to doing it. Any one else have this problem? I keep promising myself to weed out stuff, but it just doesn't happen. How many records anyone has probably has a lot to do with their age, I'm 43 and been buying since I was about 14.

HEY CLINT, is that offer for a ride from KY to Memphis still open?

Yeah, I'm still fine with giving you a ride.  There's a faint chance some people might be coming with me, but it's real doubtful and even if they did, there'd still be room for peoples.

And other peoples, I'll be at the Motel 6 as well, so you'll most likely be able to hit me up for Hi-Tone rides to & fro
Dang.. I ended up buying a multi stop plane ticket instead.  Is it an expensive cab ride from the airport to the Motel 6?  Maybe I'll just hang out until I see other gonerfest folks arrive and bum a ride.

It's about $20/25 from the airport to Motel 6 if I recall correctly.

45 minutes sounds about right, maybe a bit less. I've never found it to be sketchy, just a whole lot of nothing between where the motels are and McLean, but maybe I've just been lucky.

[
What assholes. They (the hotel) didn't call or email people to tell them that the hotel is closed. I just tried calling to cancel my reservations and the phone just rings busy.
Yeah, that was annoying, luckily I cancelled by reservation as soon as I heard they were going out of business.

it's a damn shame about the artisan. roughly how much would a cab ride cost from hi tone to motel 6? Just in case...
Gonna purchase flights tomorrow! Getting stoked!!!!
Who's staying for the "cool off" or "come down" or whatever it's called?

A cab from Motel 6 to the Hi-Tone is about $8, but catching cabs in Memphis can be a real drag (take forever to show up), I'm hoping to catch a ride if possible. I'm staying for Sunday too, it's a nice way to round out the weekend.

Non-Music Shit / Re: It's 2010, and You Don't Have a Cellphone

I don't have a personal mobile either. No great reason, just don't want or need one. Never seen the appeal. Probably ironic as I work for a Telecoms company. Only switch on my work mobile when absolutely necessary, which is not often.

Most of that line-up is pretty fucking great. The only thing that would suck is it all being on one day.

Music Shit / Re: minus zero records in london - Back From The Grave
« on: July 24, 2010, 09:08:30 AM »
Walked past the old Minus Zero / Stand Out store today and found a notice on the door that said Minus Zero has returned and now had a stall on Portobello Road market. So, Bill is back from the grave and selling records again! The stall is at Units 11 & 12, Red Lion Arcade, 165-169 Portobello Road, open Sat and Sun only. A smaller space than his half of the old store, but it's good to have him back - go buy records!!

I've stayed at The Artisan a couple of times and it's been just about OK. The room quality is random. I read an on-line article saying that Country Hearth is refurbishing some of the rooms, just hope I get one of those.

Golden Pass purchased.  THIS IS GONNA BE FUN.

Me too! And it's always fun!

Upcoming Shows/Tours/Events / Re: UK gigs of termbro-interest thread
« on: June 17, 2010, 10:52:36 AM »
aaargh put off going to Smith Western until tonight and it was sold out because they were opening for some band that's popular.  Now that they're the toast of the NME I'm hoping they'll be back soon, pursuing their dreams in the new Jerusalem.

I missed them too, but seeing Joan Jett on Monday more than makes up for it.

I have a friend visiting London  from June 17-21 and is looking for "fun" shit to do + shows that are happening in the area.  Any insight or information would be appreciated.

There's a '77 punk night called 'Neat Neat Neat' happening on Friday downstairs at some mexican restaurant on Old Street called "South of the Border" and the 70s punk band London are playing.

Neat Neat Neat is on Friday 25th (last Friday of the month). No gigs that I know of, but the Kings Cross Record Fair is happening on Sunday at The Lexington in Angel 1pm-6pm.
